Robot Bastards 2: The New Era

So, I'm hoping to have this puppy running after CBC <del>Ruination 4</del>, if that's alright with people. It'll have similar rules to Pressure Drop, but with the saw rule for CBC, as well as a few modifications (RIP walkers), and a few clarifications to the allowed SIZE of robots.

3 weight classes

LW - 25 kg
MW - 50 kg
HW - 100 kg

We're ditching SHW for a year. Not much point keeping around a weight class that doesn't exist anymore.

Stats: 30 points, split between five categories
Speed
Traction
Torque
Weapon
Armor

The schedule will be a swiss style 5-round robin. The top 8 bots in each weight class will advance to the quarterfinals.

The Arena:
Image

The Robot Bastards Arena features:

-Killsaws
-Pulverizers in each corner
-Arena Drums in each corner
-A wedge wall, with an "Out of Bounds" zone that bots can be launched into for KOs. This wall is roughly 2 meters high.
-A layer of fine-grain debris on the floor. This affects the usefulness of pressing wedges. If a robot tries to press its wedge it will lose half its mobility&#33; So the goal is to be low, but not too low, this time.

Rules

Similar to other tournaments. We'll be using the RB rules from last time with updates to the damage scale, saw damage, and some other tweaks.

Walkers get no advantage this time. You're free to enter them though, if you're a masochist.

======================================================================

UPDATE - Signups will be :holland: January 25th to February 2nd at 1 AM. :holland:

Try to have your bots ready to go by then. We'll pick up right when CBC ends.

I'm planning to run this very differently. I'd like people to merely reserve in this thread, and post when their bots are ready to enter (you can post the names but nothing else). There will be a brief time period with SIGNIFICANT FOREWARNING when team entries can be posted. So nobody will know what each other's bots are or what their stats are until they get posted. Surprise makes everything a little more fun, right?

"Brad, what the fuck is this?"

So, uh... this is an experiment. It's pretty fast, clearly. The wedges are hinged. The wheels are at 30 degree angles, so it can technically strafe, although I concede its speed will be affected quite a bit in doing so. How do I plan to win with this, you ask? Isn't it obvious? :v:

<hr />

What, you thought Defiance 2 was gonna happen without a walker bonus?

I think this is the first time I've entered a vertical spinner in anything, unless you want to count the Mech Mash event that never actually happened. Or Red Snake, which I'm trying to forget existed. Aggressively wide 2WD reversible vertical bar spinner. The wedges are strategically shaped to work inverted, and the wheels are placed back far enough to give protection from your typical horizontal spinners. We'll see how this pans out with the changes to the arena floor, I guess.

Remember Greed? Yeah, I've had this version sitting around for a few months. 2WD overhead thwack with a really big hook that serves as sort of a bootleg clamp. Bottom left picture shows it clamping my Sewer Snake clone. Avarice includes all the features of its big brother: extra treads for traction while tipped up, side spikes on the tail for a horizontal thwacking option, The Master-style all-in-the-wheels internals, and two wedge setups: forks with Greed-style sprung tips that probably won't do shit, and an anti-spinner wedge as pictured bottom right. I can't wait to drive this thing :D

Team Yellow Alert

LW - Exotherm
"Gamma Ray would be better without the bar" -Kody
Image
A vertical spinner with two setups. Pictured above is the anti-wedge fork setup. The forks are limited from moving upwards and hitting the bar. The robot is weakly invertible and can self-right using the BiteForce method of driving upside-down into a wall and righting itself with its weapon. When the weapon isn't running it can also self-right by simply reversing quickly.

Image
The anti-spinner shield setup. The central section of the wedge is all part of the weapon arm and gets the weapon bonus, while the outer parts of the arm, which are hinged, get no bonus to keep below the 33% rule.

Image
To better illustrate this concept, here's a view with the "darth vader mask" removed. Note the connection underneath it between the side wedges.

Image
Spinning.

Speed: 7
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 13
Armor: 5

MW: Pterodactyl
Image
A weakly invertible flipper with a pair of forks on the front, and a hinged plow on the back. Previously ABR forks, I now have to spend a ruddy point so they don't turn on all the time thanks to my new rules. The forks have a shared 1 point lifter running both of them, which I plan to activate only briefly to press the floor when it's convenient, before firing the flipper.

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 2
Weapon a (flipper): 5
Weapon b (forks): 1
Armor: 9 (+3 rear wedge)

HW: V'Ger
A SteveOUT style spinner with a clutch-driven kinetic energy flipper on the back.
Image
Image

V'Ger is weakly invertible. The flipper becomes useless when inverted, although it can fire it to shove its weapon into the top of an opponent, if the situation calls for it.
Image

Speed: 6
Traction: 3
Torque: 1
Weapon a: 13 (spinner)
Weapon b: 1(clutch)

TEAM IGNITION

LW: Redline
Image
Image
The champ is back, baby&#33; 4WD rammer with a hinged front wedge and all the speed&#33; Comes in two flavors: the anti-spinner ABR wedge, and the other wedge which will be on for every other fight. The second wedge is completely invertible and has a second set of monster truck teeth hidden under the wedge if it's inverted. The rear "spoiler" does not impair ground clearance when inverted.

Speed: 9
Weapon: 0
Armor: 10 (+2 to the front wedge)
Traction: 7
Torque: 4

MW: WhipCoil
Image

Yet another WhipCoil redesign&#33; Now featuring more of the same&#33; 4wd grabber/lifter/whatever with a rear plow and full invertibility. The plow can be removed to increase the ground clearance at the back. When the plow is removed, internal ballast makes up the weight lost.

Speed: 8
Weapon: 3 (dual weapons rule gives each jaw a power of 2)
Armor: 9 (+3 to the plow)
Traction: 6
Torque: 4

HW: Doomerang 3
Image

Doomerang makes its first appearance on Drowning City after two years over on Reddit. Doomerang is a melty-brain spinner with 9 wheels&#33; why 9, you ask? Because there isn't any reason not to&#33; It makes my drivetrain more redundant, and it reduces knockback, and since the outer ones are tilted slightly, it means I have very little wheel scrub while spinning up. Doomerang is fully invertible.

(If you're wondering what the "thwack teeth" are, it's the outer region of the arms, including both sets of spikes and the wheel guards)

Speed: 13
Weapon: 1
Armor: 10 (+2 to the thwack teeth)
Traction: 5 (+3 melty-brain spinup bonus for a total of 8)
Torque: 1

Team Blood Gulch:

LW: Zombie Killer

4WD, big hinged wedge, fully invertible, and hinged plow on the back. Who said the life of a slayer of the undead was exciting? The plow wraps around to make it harder for spinners to target the edges. Has removable teeth near the top of the wedge to prevent opponents pulling the Monster Truck trick. Furthermore, the spikes lining the inside of the plow are removable as well.

Speed: 8
Traction: 7
Torque: 5
Armour: 10 (+2 for the plow)
Weapon: 0

MW: The Green Hornet
It's your basic undercutting disc spinner that's fully invertible. Also, it's green and packs a hell of a sting.

Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Armor: 6
Weapon: 14

Rear view: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/NW ... yxbtqo.png

HW: Meta Ridley

The Space Pirates have rebuilt Ridley&#33; He's still 2WD, but his twin bars have been replaced with a large undercutter disc. The thwack tail has been fortified as well. He can function as an overcutter when inverted.

Speed: 6
Traction: 4
Torque: 1

LW: Backstab 2

Image

Remember that immortal brick I made in Cherry Bomb? Well now he's back. No weird spikes and ineffective lifter this time. Just a classic pusherbot. Or is it?
If you notice in the pictures, Backstab is basically prepared for whatever you throw at it. It has a plow (shown in the first image) a wedge (shown in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th images), a 4WD setup, and a 2WD setup (the tires are foam filled of course). Said plow and wedge attachments can be hinged or static. Yep, 6. Attachments. All on one bot. (Yes I only showed the 2WD setup with the bot inverted. Give me some slack since my computer crashed earlier :V). The third picture shows the bot inverted with the hinged wedge upside down. It may look different, but the wedge works either way up regardless without reducing it's effectiveness.
The sides of this brick also have freely rolling trackballs, meaning that when it gets stuck on it's side, the ball on that side will slip instead of tip, rolling it back on to it's wheels quickly. I'm doing this to experiment something. If Backstab gets wedged from the side, the slippery, moving trackball could allow Backstab to slip out of the opponent's grip. And if that's not enough, Backstab can self right with the painted-white side flipper on top (this can also be used as a flipping arm if I'm lucky). And if there are any doubts about this self righting, it has a stroke of 90

Alright here are my entries :).

LW- Wingspan

Image

Wingspan has a spinning bar as a weapon and a slightly obscure shape for a chassis, he is 2WD robot that run inverted.

Speed: 6
Traction: 4
Weapon: 13
Armour: 6
Torque: 1

MW - Precise Saunter

Image

A much improved design from the previous version, PS now has shufflers inside the robot so it will have better turning when steering. The robot still has the powerful Axe but the chassis has immensely modified completely. The front of the robot has a hinged front so it is able to go underneath as use it's pushing power to slam into the opponents.

Speed: 6
Traction: 3
Weapon: 12
Torque: 1
Armour: 8

HW- Methane

Image

Methane is my first design to have air suspension which is able to adjust it's ground clearance variable, the flipper is mounted with a poly carbonate bar to assist the machine to self right and prevent opponents from driving over it, Methane is 2WD driven and has chrome armament, just to look fancy of course.

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Armour: 9
Weapon: 5

Lightweight: Endless Clowns

Image
Image
And here we see the wild clown. A fearsome predator by nature, it prefers to dig its claws in underneath its prey and then bite them with its powerful lower jaw.

Image
Image

When threatened, clowns are able to change the positioning of their feathers to make them appear much brighter, in an attempt to frighten off its assailant; in the wild, the Horizontal Spinner is a predator to clowns, known to cut them off at the ankles. In an attempt to defend itself, this clown has brightened itself, and also moved into a more defensive position, abandoning the ability to lift prey in favor of better shielding.

side skirts are hinged, removable, and limited from folding under the robot. anti-spinner wedge is hinged (very limited to prevent wedge/spinner interferences), and the robot is semi-invertable (and can maybe self-right?) in that configuration; wheelguards are also removable in the event that they would be a bad idea :V . the anti-spinner wedge is attached at the weapon supports, allowing it to benefit from the weapon armor bonus and giving it 13 armor in total

Speed: 7
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 11 (spinner)
Weapon: 2 (Lifter)/ 0 (hinged wedge configuration)
Armor: 5/ 7 (+2 wedge) (hinged wedge configuration)

Never mind the bollocks, here's Ice Cubed Robotics.

LW: Apathy & Lethargy
Image
Since Spy vs Spy worked surprisingly well, I decided to try doing clusterbots again&#33; Taking inspiration from the Conqueror 3 prototype I did some time ago, they're a pair of agile and tough flippers that are good at turning guys over and keeping them under control, but can still take punishment if needed.

Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 2
Weapon: 2
Armour: 9

Notes: Can self right quickly, and have partially-exposed rear drive wheels for easily escaping wedges if needed.

MW: Trump Ex Machina
Image

With morale down on ARC and in America, I've decided to do my bit and provide some much-needed extra fun with an actual robot bastard, and indeed ICR's first proper assbot. Based of course on current US President (somehow) and professional scumbag Donald Trump, it's a narrow and top-heavy design that's slow, can't push, has shit manoeuvrability, and plenty of other things that are wrong with that. But that's OK, because he's got two powerful(ish) weapons- a reciprocating spike with a hardened tip on the front for grabbing robots by the pussy and is surrounded by a protective wall for keeping all the spinners and Mexican drug-dealers out (pls don't actually kill me Mexico, you're OK really), and a flamethrower out the back for burning Liberals (again, don't kill me) and potentially setting itself and others on fire. And of course it's all crowned with a statue of the man himself built mostly out of balsa wood, thin aluminium, flammable plastic and cheap suits, and has a fair portion of the gas tank for the flamethrower mounted inside it. What could possibly go wrong?

Speed: 4
Torque: 1
Traction: 3
Armour: 10 (+8 bonus to THE WALL on the front, -8 everywhere else)
Weapon: 12 (Reciprocating Spike and rear Flamethrower. 7 for Flamethrower, 5 for Micropenis Spike)

Note: Cannot self-right, very fragile, slow, wheels and lipo batteries close to the outside for easy spinner access, gas tank mounted partially inside body (so likely to explode into flames wherever you hit it from), and the toupee is flammable. The one who does the most damage to this piece of shit by the Playoffs gets to keep that&#33;

HW: Rainbow in the Dark
Image
Completing the line-up is this guy, returning again from Cherry Bomb Classic. Yes, it was originally a Middleweight (pls dun kill me, Kody), but now, it's been scaled up, had the drive issues that plagued it last time fixed up a bit, and it's back to do even more damage and show support for all the metalhead and/or LGBT fans of Alex V-style robot mutilation out there. Still a big powerful spinner with interchangeable tools complete with the double-sided teeth, the ability to spin either way and as either an undercutter or an angled overcutter depending on which way up it is, and the special luminous strips on either side of them that allow it to produce cool rainbow-coloured rings when spinning at maximum velocity.

And thanks to the lexan-covered LED panels and lines etched into the armour (And covered with thick Lexan, so still no breaking them in one hit. :v: ) that glow sequentially in all the colours of the rainbow and the "metal hand" logo and text on the top and bottom that glow white, it's still pretty awesome. Well, hopefully awesome-er this time around, but we'll soon see, eh?

Speed- 5
Traction- 4
Torque- 1
Weapon- 14 (Horizontal undercutting/angled overcutting spinner, interchangeable for either a bar or a disc.)
Armour- 6

Can run inverted. Interlocking steering prevents the need for it to reverse its controls when flipped, it can be set to function as either an undercutter or an angled overcutter depending on which way up it is, and the weapon can spin either way. Is named after the song "Rainbow in the Dark", by Ronny James Dio.
ICE³ ROBOTICS
"Tougher than a glacier, more might than an avalanche, more fury than a blizzard, and more burning passion than a volcano."

Lightweight: <big>Meanstreak</big>

I caved and made a spinner. Drum is on a pivoting assembly, like Viluy's. It's a single weapon, like Howler's. It's a control spinner like Powerdrive. Feeder wedges are removable for fights against undercutters.

7 speed / 5 traction / 1 torque / 12 weapon / 5 armour (+1 to the drum)

Middleweight: <big>Hoarfrost</big>

It should be pretty obvious to people what this is and what it does. Anti-monstertrucking spikes don't interfere with invetability and are removable.

9 Speed / 9 Traction / 3 Torque / 9 Armour (+1 white armoured front) / 0 Weapon

Heavyweight: <big>Hellhound IV</big>

Image

Hellhound's back, stripped of all of the useless extras. He's leaner, meaner, and ready to guard the gates of Tartarus from all manner of spinner scum and anything else, really. His weapon is a 360 degree lifter and his brutally effective drive train.

Stats: 9 speed / 8 traction / 3 torque / 9 amour (+2 plow) / 1 weapon

LW: Wedge Trimmer

Well, whad'ya know? Once again, Team Stealth has enlisted the help of Team Alpha Robotics and is running their Lightweight for this tournament&#33; It is a 2WD with an 'eggbeater' spinner. It may not look as menacing as a drum, but it is made of hardened tool steel and at this weight class, every ounce counts. The spinner has a 1/2 inch ground clearance, making it impossible for any wedge to get under the front (hence the name). And, this bot has a thick titanium frame, as well (including a strip of Ti above some of the important electronic bits). It also can self-right: the spinner itself (like with Backlash). Head for the nearest wall and get back right-side up.

Yes, another aviary-themed robot, but this one is all shiny instead of dark and foreboding.

4WD launcher in a similar style to Son of Ziggy, just scaled down a bit, weight-wise. It has hinged skirts all around and titanium 'pontoons' that flank the scoop-like flipper, which should minimize ground clearance. And, the flipper is strong enough to self-right, if needed. There are also static ramming spikes on the back end

Yeah, it's back, deal with it (if you can)...

2WD horizontal bar spinner (Tombclone). Need I say more? Oh, right-I upgraded the drive to more powerful motors to give this thing some speed this time around.

A lightweight multibot&#33; One's a FBS and one's a flipper.

MW: Trojan Horse

Image
<small>(all 4 weapons + rotating wheel blocks are shown)</small>

Speed: 6
Traction: 4
Torque: 3
Weapon: 10 (in drum form, clamp form, and hammer form, 0 for plow form) (also 1 weapon point for the wheel pods)
Armor: 7 (17 in plow form)

Somewhat inspired by Razorback from ABC's Battlebots. Just somewhat. If it gets flipped over, it can rotate it's wheel pods around and it's back for some more destruction.

My gut's telling me that Trojan Horse will do alright, but only time will tell.

HW: Massimo

Speed: 5
Traction: 2
Torque: 3

Armor: 7

A fat bastard of a drumbot, the self-righting brace on the back isn't shown. Basically Massimo is Radical Larry if it was a combat robot. All business, all the time.

This will be my first tournament after my major flop in ARC: Ruination, so this time around, I'm going to slap myself and actually arr pee, and make sure I won't procrastinate.
