A Robot Competition (A.R.C.)

alright. this is a small-scale tournament which is going to attempt to bring some interest back into what ARC is actually known for. no experimental rules, nothing encouraging insane rule-bending designs, just some good old-fashioned robot combat.

this tournament operates under the ARC standard ruleset which can be found here:

In addition to this, to appeal to my biases keep things simple, the following restrictions are in play:
-There will be no point bonuses granted for non-wheeled motion.
-Robots are limited to two (2) different configurations, maximum.

Everyone enters one robot. Since it's a one-robot event assigning a weight class to things feels really arbitrary but if you really need one to cling to we can call it heavyweight since that's the big one that matters irl.

This event will use one (1) arena, and it's pretty simple. You've got a flat, unobstructed floor, screws set into the walls, and an oota pocket in each corner.


The format is eight weeks of round robin-style matches followed by single-elimination playoffs. the size of the playoffs will be decided by how many entries we get. If we get less than eight entries overall then we'll just fight everyone vs everyone and see how long that takes.

Judging will be based on a 15-point scale that evenly splits between the three categories of Aggression, Damage and Control. This should be pretty self-explanatory to you lot.

Per tradition, RPs will be due Saturday night/Sunday morning, 12 AM EST. Results will likely be up monday, but expect delays, because we are all adults with lives.

There's a soft RP limit of 400 words. This means you can sneak over that line a little bit if your strategy got too complex, not that you should be ignoring it entirely to write a college thesis on why your opponent should lose. Keep it simple, stupid.

ARC is meant to be fun, and ARC can't function without people willing to write matches. With that in mind, I don't want to see any toxicity over the results. This is a written warning to those that might be sore losers. Obviously this still means you can go "aw darn I lost" if you lose, that's fine, but insulting the writing staff and tearing apart their results will not be tolerated. If you make my staff upset, you will quickly find yourself with no fights at all.

ARC's second "vertical rammer" to my knowledge--ofc i'm not the first to do so considering that neglected waterbug was a thing, but imperator is based around the yeti design philosophy of "i'm going to ram my face into you until the cows come home, and you can do nothing about it" while improving on the mixed results of harrowdown hill from CBC3. essentially, imperator is a speed vert wearing groucho glasses hoping that the flippers that it's trying to inconspicuously blend into don't notice it's deeply unserious disguise.

front wedge is hinged and shock-mounted in hopes to reduce internal damage from horizontals, and is on a ~5-10 degree limiter downwards (whether it's enough to win the wedge war or not is entirely up to the writers' discretion though) with no upwards motion on the hinges.

4wd control-brick. can swap between forks and a solid wedge.
the "piano keys" on the forked config are hinged, as is the wedge on the other. both are reduced-travel so they can scrape the floor and not fold beneath the robot.
the arm rides the floor, can press, and can rotate 90 degrees upward so it's perpendicular with the floor.
both configs can drive inverted, but the horns on the forked weapon raise the front wheels off the ground while upside-down.

The long overdue sequel to Xtreme pneumatIX. A two-wheel driven low-pressure flipper (the black and white bit). With a drive powerful enough to shove anyone unfortunate enough to be stuck on that wedge around but thankfully, not torquey enough to make it wheelie. The robot is still very much invertible thanks to the 'horn' at the top of the flipping arm. The flag is purely for decoration and it will come off easily. The Flipping-Arm has around about fifty-degrees of travel, making it easily able to self-right. Thanks to the rounded bumper on the back, it is impossible for this robot to be stuck on it's back or sides, also acting like a nice chunky wheelguard that thanks to it's shape, will able to simply shrug off and deflect any hits. 12 armour all-around means it'll be able to take a licking and keep on kicking all day long! It also features 'snout nostrils' on the wedge that help with holding robots on there when moving them around the arena, particularly robots with low ground-clearances! The forks on the flipping arm have been redesigned with angled sides to aid in getting under other robots from an angle, also beefing them up a bit.



In addition to the standard configuration, I will also be bringing along it's extra wedgelets configuration! This configuration sports an extra pair of super beefy, hinged wedgelets to help aid in getting under robots which can be used with either the long or standard forks. Both wedgelets are equipped with angle limiters so that they are unable to get stuck upwards or downwards.

Wedge is hinged at the axle and can be removed for my alt config, nothing fancy.
For something fancy, the rear assembly has pyrotechnics in the exhaust ports, because it's fun.

It's back baby

Front-hinged flipper with the flipper arm extending past the pivot point all the way to the ground. Can interchangeably mount either a plain wedge or small wedgelets. The flipper can toss opponents around 4-5 feet in the air and potentially a really long way forward with a good runup, but can be used in a lower-power mode to self-right without overrotating. See supplemental pictures for range of motion and view of the chassis's rear bevel to prevent high-centering.

I saw Chad the Inhaler (bot with 12 speed + 4 armor) and went "this, but unironically". Smash it open for a surprise. The wheels are on a spring-based suspension so that it doesn't instantly die upon colliding with a wall. Think like your average RC car.

Spoiler: the 4 plastic sections at the center of the bot are full of confetti. Surprise!

WBM

It's your run of the mill Britbong-style pneumatic flipper (fires in a 60 degree arc), good luck damaging it. Big wheels give it plenty of ground clearance to fight wedges.

You see those pipes on the back? They're made out of pool noodles. They let out a little puff of CO2 every time the weapon fires. Should they be ripped off, it'll reveal a small hole in the chassis.

You'll get me to boot up Rhino again if this turns out to be more than just a one-time thing :V

It's a 4-bar powerflipper, no gimmick boost as a secondary weapon anymore so name doesn't make that much sense anymore but whatever. Capable of some massive throws while still being able to move around and take punches.

I have both a plow and forks config but no stat changes because i don't need them, my weapon has 12 armour already.

Mandatory i can fire at less than full power for selfrighting if i so choose, also it can drive perfectly fine when upside down, forks/plow are hinged but only a few degrees so flipper still works

Slipstream

Slipstream is a 2WD front-hinged flipper bot. the back of the robot has a built in wedge stabilizers to stop the robot from riding upright when moving forward. The alternative design of the robot named "The Mohawk" is designed to pin opponents underneath and use the flipper the flip over opponents, the alternative design features built in wedglets to help win the ground game. The mohawk is a breakable material instead of solid material

Alrighty, time for a new build. Team Code Red Robotics presents:
Mortuary

Giant undercutter, here is the base configuration:



The main config’s statistics are:
4 speed
3 control
1 torque
15 weapon
7 armor

Dunno if I need to mention it, but the +4 weapon armor bonus should apply here.

As for the alternate config? Here you go. Same stats, but with 13 weapon, and 9 armor (+2 to the wheelguards). They’re mounted to the chassis in only 2 areas, should snap off before they bend into the wheels




As for clarification with the configurations and clearances?





Without the wheelguards, I am putting the weight into a heavier disc and back spikes to prevent it from getting stuck. That does mean that the wheelguard configuration has a flat back, but I have been able to get unstuck like Surgeon General has; by spinning down and oscillating my wheels.





The disc is wider than the wheelbase, but it should stay stable provided I keep my weapon well controlled.



As for the clearance? I have offset the wheels, they are flush with the caster, and they have more clearance upside down. This and the sloped geometry means running upside down makes her far less stable, although I don’t intend to stay upside down for that long.





In terms of final notations, Mortuary is made from a solid aluminum billet, with the front wedge being bolted on Hardox (alongside the wheelguards) for accessibility and repair’s sake. If you’re wondering why Mortuary has an odd livery, it is competing in a world championship style event, representing Greenland. Plus the half red, half white skull does go hard visually, lol.

Can’t wait to see this event come together, it is gonna be a blast.

There are two flipper arms to pick from, the Pitchfork setup has 3 prongs on the flipper and two shock mounted wedgelets on the sides. The P.O.W. setup has a wide wedge with 3 forks attached.

Annoying Vert Rush

The only thing more annoying than ABR is one that's been hashed into a vertical spinner with wedgelets, because the 'metagame' and 'being optimal' and '202X' and stuff. We'll see if my logic pans out.

It is a control spinner--emphasis on the control. The single tooth drum is meant to flip and bully, and aid in carrying. Obviously invertible, though the hinged wedge and wedgelets are a bit worse at giving mechanical purchase to the drum in the upside-down configuration.
