Okie Dokie let's get this rolling.

Before I even get to the meat of things: This is going to be a 1(possibly 2) man operation. Results may not be weekly, or even on the same day. RP's will have a due date, but other than that we will see. This tournament is meant to be fun and not to be taken seriously. If you are highly competitive and are looking for big writeups/lots of detail/timely results, please look elsewhere.

With that being said....

Same rules as whatever we are using now (Note: I talked to a few people a while back who suggested some tweaks that I liked, but I can't find the conversation, if anybody that was part of that conversation can holler at me with what we said, I will update this accordingly). We will be using the same 30 point system as we are used to.

This tournament will be based on designs from 1994-2000. We will be doing double elimination as well. I will have final say in all designs. Again, this tournament is meant to be fun and lighthearted....please don't enter bricks/wedges/cheap designs. {Please stay in the spirit of early Battlebots/Robot Wars with weird, terrible, effective, and funny designs.

Uh...yeah....I don't know what else to say. I guess go ahead and sign up and this will happen eventually.

Oh yeah: No reserve spots. You must have a picture of your bot with stats to be accepted. Absolutely no editing of stats/picture after submitted.

OH!: Back stories to bots are now required, because fuck it why not.

One final note: The first 10 participants to sign up will be in. If demand is high enough, I will up it to 12, but will absolutely not go above that.

Skelzie

Image

From the deepest, darkest depths of California (probably) comes Skelzie, a 2WD machine with a pair of casters for balance and a quartet of vicious sawblades bringing destruction and devastation to all who oppose it. Or at least it did back in 1996, the builders have found little to no free time to improve upon the design, aside from buying slightly more powerful batteries and motors. Can this wily veteran still cut it? (lol cut its a sawbot)

It was the summer of '97 and Jimbo McGillicuddy had just been laid off from his job as a construction worker. Suddenly faced with a lot of time on his hands and not much to do in between visits to the employment office, Jimbo found himself spending a lot of time watching TV. Then one night he found the sport he never knew he was looking for all that time: robot combat! "Those guys are chumps!" he exclaimed, after having watched the whole episode without even picking up his now-warm beer. "I'll show them what kind of destruction a robot can really do!"

Several months later and with the help of a couple of his best buds, Jimbo's terrible creation was finally ready to go. Jimbo had had to get back to work to pay the bills, but his garage had become a steel tubing- and polycarbonate panel-strewn shrine to the product of his obsessive drive to create the robot of his dreams. Would it live up to his sky-high expectations? Only time would tell...

Screamroller is a vertical drum-flail-wielding two-wheeled bringer of destruction and chaos. The drum is hollow and relatively light-weight, despite its looks, and is balanced by the heavy lead-acid batteries at the rear, which power the two wheels. The drum itself is powered by a go-kart motor, which can run in forward or reverse, but can't switch its direction of rotation mid-match. It's supported in the rear by a pair of casters and in the front by a couple flexible outrunners with low-grip caster wheels. The flails nearly touch the ground when the drum is spinning.

The name means "Shark" in Hawaiian, and Team Niuhui hopes to eat up the competition with this beast of a robot!

Although Niuhui and her team might've come from overseas from the U.S State of Hawaii, Niuhui is a fairly quickly and cheaply made machine, with the components and materials being fairly pricey due to shipping overseas, Niuhui will completely devastate her opponents and make the whole tournament look like a luau once she's done!

From San Francisco comes Team Obscure, this team made of 3 members originating from France came to an event last year with Prismarine, a 4WD robot armed with a big spring-loaded pickaxe, however, dissapointed by the lack of sheer carnage, they decided that they were entering this year with the most powerful weapon they were able to make, and thus they have created the mechanical insanity known as Prismarine Evolution:

Image

this thing can be best described as "gigantic mobile weapon", that is a 5 feet large mild steel sawblade powered by a old car engine, this monstrosity is no joke in the slightest, in fact, when they tested it against the old car they got the engine from, not only did the blade cut a gigantic gash into the car's side, but the hood was torn right off by the impact, however they noticed the giant blade caused turning problems to the point where it could tip over very easily, they tried to fix this by adding side supports, with some success, now it actually can somewhat decently move, at least enough to have an hope of bringing that monstrous weapon into an enemy and watch it just disintegrate as it's remains get sent flying across the arena.

Noise

Image

Not to be confused with Noise (Through The Apartment Walls)

4WD hinged wedge armed with a weak pneumatic rod meant to flip and strand the opponent onto walls. Also good for aggression in a pinch. Has a removable roll cage that protects the body and in the very middle of it all, a huge, very old, television screen that barely works. Once it's turned on, all you can hear is the horrible static television noise (yes, this shit) which can be heard even outside the arena building. Got spinners? Noise also has a sacrificial rear cage to deflect spinner blows.

Back in 1997, Jeremiah Smith was tired of staying in the dull city of Chicago fixing cars as a mechanic. Sometimes he would also build diy stuff and especially homemade gocarts with spare parts and scrap metal he'd find at a junkyard. He was also known as one of the best mechanics in town and was able to pay his rent, but he knew that he wanted to do more with his gift of fixing and building. After learning about a certain "robot combat" tournament, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. So he brought a few of his mechanic and engineer friends with him to create the legendary Team Retrospective. It was at this point where he built robots out of whatever he could find, and this is how it began.

Noise was first built starting with his grandfather's analog television. They eventually hooked some wires up to get the screen to work, and create it's infamous...noise. The team then used the same kind of aluminum found on cars to build the frame and body surrounding it, adding an extra thick layer of titanium for extra protection. The front wedge is stainless steel. The rear cage is made of stolen dog cages welded together, and bent into shape (yes you read that right). Finally the roll cage is actually made up of old street signs. Scrap metal woo :v:

Skreach

Built by a group of high schoolers from Minnesota, Skreach is proof that anyone can make something that resembles a robot. 90% of the parts of this robot were scrounged from a local scrapyard, with the five massive sawblades being "borrowed" from a family lumber mill. It was named after the noise it makes when it drives around on asphalt.

The nuclear chaos at the center of all existence... Azathoth! This robot takes after Blendo, spinning a massive shell at over 900 rpm! This machine was built by a team of aircraft mechanics from Broomfield, Colorado and they'll be darned if they're driving for three days and not winning any fights. The team's aerospace knowledge has been applied to the construction of the robot's frame, which is made of welded mild steel plates with internal and external stiffening ribs. A top flag houses the antenna in a sturdy plastic tube, and provides a directional indicator. The shell has twelve steel teeth bolted on: eight are hook-shaped blades, the other four are steel bars running the entire height of the shell to keep other spinning weapons from reaching between the blades. The robot's drivetrain is fairly minimalistic, using only a set of four converted DeWalt 18V drills, but the weapon uses a monstrous 12 HP go-kart motor which drives the shell via an automotive serpentine belt. To save weight, the bot uses state-of-the-art NiMH battery technology.

Legends tell of a robot that was found in notorious drug lord Gonzalo "MC Rubik's Cube" Grompf's basement, laying on a cocaine-coated pool table after he had moved out of the country to avoid being caught by the long arm of the law. It was soon confiscated as evidence and then tossed into the trash after Gonzalo was found dead from a cheeto dust overdose at the ripe age of 109. However, one plucky individual was lucky enough to stumble upon the fated trash can of destiny that this robot laid in. Taking it home, he brought the mechanics up to their former glory, winning championship after championship with.
and then there's this bot, which some dickhead made hoping to bank in on the aforementioned robot's success. :dirk:

Two guys decided they wanted to make a cool-as-shit bot. In a shed. In the North-West. Two in fact. They are both driven by 2 drill motors, powering them to a whopping 8 mph. The chassis is made of box-section steel, with thin aluminium bolted to it, to "keep the dust out." The drums have two Bosch 750's powering them, as petrol engines are a) heavy, with weight being the enemy of a cluster-bot, and b) complicated, and liable to not working when flipped. The srimech/lifters have a windscreen wiper motor each, just enough to lift 40kg. We think they could slowly lift 80 kilos. We hope.
