Sign-up Information:

There will be 4 weight classes; Featherweight, Lightweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight. Each weight class will be limited to 12 robots (I'll up it to 16 if there's enough interest). Each competitor may enter up to 1 robot per weight class, so weight classes must be signed up for individually; this means that you may enter in as few or as many weight classes as you would like. as usual, robots will be assigned 30 points to be divided among the following categories as to the desires of the builder;

Speed
Traction
Torque
Weapon
Armor

matches will round robin, with robots randomly assorted into groups of 8. I'd like to do swiss, but as Robot Bastards is showing, having to wait for all the writers to get their shit together before you move onto the next week extends your tournament to all hell :V

hinged wedges or hinged forks for different situations (I can also just go in with no wedges if I ever wanted to :V), invertable on the rear wheels - those horns actually make for a decent wedge (I can provide proof if wanted&#33;), though it can also self-right when it hits an opponent or a wall, since the drum isn't reversible.

CATCH PHRASE&#33;

the wedgelets are hinged, the anti-spinner plow is shock mounted (but will function like a hinged wedge). I realize that in reality see-through materials would not make the best of spinner defense, but I'm taking some artistic liberty in making it look cool since ya'll're forced to respect armor ratings regardless of material. If that changes I'll make one out of titanium but be sad that I don't get my thematic plow any more :P

FW: Pennywise the Dancing Clown

It's IT, but much MUCH smaller&#33; Here's a quick overview on how the weapon system works. The weapon arm itself is hinged, but can be locked into place via clutch when either in vertical formation or horizontal formation, and unlocked as need be (generally it will only be unlocked when the weapon isn't spinning). Other than that It's your standard 4WD spinner bot.

Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14 (13 points for the disc, 1 point for rotating weapon arm)
Armour: 6

Speed: 4
Traction: 3
Torque: 1
Armor: 7
Weapon: 15

MW: Sarge

The former MW champion is back with a fresh look. He's still got a fork lifter that can work both ways, but the plow has been greatly expanded for better protection. Additionally the plow is hinged which helps to deter those "up and over" tactics a bit, and makes it harder for other wedges to get under it. Spikes in rear plow are removable.

Speed: 7
Traction: 7
Torque: 3
Armor: 8 (+2 to rear plow)
Weapon: 5

Back View: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/NW ... b9c4f9.png

HW: Redemption Denied

He's 2WD, low to the ground, and has a massive flipping plate so good luck driving up and over before getting tossed in the air.

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Armour: 9
Weapon: 5

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

2WD drumbot with arms. My take on the control spinner. The arms are individually hinged and are NOT limited: they can go all the way around the bot. The tips are carefully crafted to be ground-scraping either way up. The bot is fully invertible, complete with mirrored feeder wedges and a reversible drum.

Boring, but effective.

Shuffling rammer, taking advantage of the 2 point shuffler bonus in this tournament. After the traction penalty, it's a functional 9/8 drivetrain. The wedge is hinged, and the hinged is limited to about a 30 degree arc to keep the wedge on the correct side of the robot at all times. The shuffle pads are shaped in such a way to give some lifter protection at the rear. Will it work as intended? Hell if I know, but it's probably better than being completely helpless. The big dent in the front of the chassis is mainly an anti-vertical spinner measure; instead of making weird angles on the front of the robot that vertical spinners can't grab, I opted to just take a chunk out of the front. Have fun chewing on air :v:

Please excuse the positioning of the pads, I'm still trying to figure out exactly how shufflers work and I'm having some trouble visualizing resting positions.

Eh, I'll reserve for LW and HW, we'll see if I can some up with something in the other two classes.

LW:
Tidal Wave II
Image

We've seen this before. Not going to change anything design wise as I think it was strategy and the arena that let it down in CBC. Drum spinner, drum can go either way and it works perfectly fine upside down (albiet it doesn't have the skids to feed into the weapon). The shields are removable in matches I think they won't be needed (mostly against non-spinners). There is also a bit of "dead area" built into the tops of the weapon supports. They can be dented inwards without damaging the systems in place to spin the drum

Meh

FW: Did Someone Say Chimichanga?

Image

It's Deadpool :v: I wasn't happy with the way TABS turned out (probably wouldn't even be able to move with the new speed rules), so I'm converting this MW into FW for now. Why? Because screw you, that's why :V

4WD ring spinner, complete with the classic Merc with the Mouth logo on the top. The circular tooth is shorter but heavier than the two long reaching teeth, acting as a counter weight similar to the blade of Cobalt. Each wheel is on it's own suspension, allowing it to drive off of wedges (the wheels don't float when upside-down sadly). DSSC also has <del>healing factor powers</del> many tiny sensors throughout&#8203; the body, immediately telling the driver what and when something isn't working quite right. This can be used to help adjust a strategy and make it work without wondering "what the hell just broke? Idfk". This can be used for a majority of the internals, and the ring itself. So it'll work for something like a burned out speed controller or a damaged weapon motor, but it won't work on say, a lost tooth or a missing wheel, since it wouldn't really need to.

Anyway, just your average ring spinner that uses sharp pointy things to <del>draw blood</del> forcefully remove the opponents internals, then fling them across the arena for fun. And well

Goodbye immortal box, hello sleek brick

Something wheel drive. Backstab has been fixed up again with a new wedge and an improved plow. The wheels have been moved a bit to make the 2WD a bit easier to work with, and the trackballs are larger and more effective. Oh yeah, the srimech is removable as well to give it extra body armor.

Oh no&#33; What have I done&#33; This isn't like me at all&#33; It has nearly 2 inches of ground clearance :v:

The rest is the same: It can have a wedge or a plow on the front (the anti monstertrucking teeth are removable), and either front weapon can be hinged or static. It has a swappable drivetrain, allowing it to have 4WD or 2WD. Wheels are chain driven in both configurations (therefore yes, having removable wheels is perfectly legal :v: ) This can allow Backstab to have an effective wedge against hinged wedges, and a maneuverability advantage against 2WD and /or slower bots. Internal ballast is inserted to make up for any weight lost. And like last time, the wheels are foam filled as an FU to spinners

The srimech on top can be used to self right (though the hinged wedge works both ways up, the plow does not), block incoming clamps or hammers, or flip bots that get stuck on Backstab's top. It has a 90

Inspired by Overhaul, Arcade Queen is a lowdown crusher/lifter that can really ruin your day in a hurry&#33; The yellow wedgelets are hinged, and she can use her weapon to self-right.

The Legislacerator is back, bitches&#33; Front-hinged launcher that is guaranteed to send your robots flying across the arena. Uses an on-board compressor, front wedge is part of the chassis, back wedge and front wedgelets are hinged. Also has an alt configuration which swaps out the back wedge for a anti-spinner plow.

Also, the red eyes on the wheelguards have red LEDs in them for extra menacing glowing effect.

Somewhat like Glasgow Kiss, somewhat like PP3D, slow, but is a force to be reckoned with. Anti-spinner plow is static.

Back from a solid run in CBC. 2WD wedge-thing with a bigass saw arm. The disc is designed to inflict serious impact damage on a swing, as opposed to gently cutting into an opponent. If you need an example, check out MegatRON's fights from Motorama '17. front forks are removable. can right itself with the arm.

Speed: 6
Weapon: 12 (10 saw, 2 arm)
Armor: 6 (+4 front wedge not counting the forks)

Been almost a year since I CADed this thing, high time I entered it into something. 2WD lifty clampy bot (only the middle jaw moves) with cambered wheels and interchangeable rear setups: A bigass plow for defense and a springed thwack tail for offense. The front wedges are angled in slightly, which should hopefully counter any "angle in" strategies.

Speed: 8
Weapon: 2
Armor: 10 (+2 to the rear setup)
Traction: 8
Torque: 2

Speed: 7
Traction: 5

This robot contains a flywheel to flick and damage the opponent armor, it may not the quickest but it has a solid weapon power and strong enough armor to handle.

LW - Shuriken

Image

Shuriken is a LW robot that has three interchangeable blades. The main blade is for damaging, the second is for throwing and the third is for defense. It may not be the fastest but it relies on survival. The front wedge is hinged with goes up to 15 degrees limited arc. The robot can run inverted.

Speed: 5 / Trac: 5 / Weapon: 13 / Torque: 1 / Armour: 6

MW- Lethal Carriageway

Image

A New MW I've developed where this robot has an electronic powered lifting wedge in front, it's made for brute force and power, and trust me you don't want to see this thing through a motorway, it's 4WD, has orange small lights at the side of the robot to give it some character, it has and extra wedge that's upside down from behind in order for extra protection when it's inverted. The wedge from the back is hinged

LC can run both ways up thanks to the shape and the size of it's wheels.

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Weapon: 3
Armour: 11

HW - Ricochet

Ricochet is relied by pure pushing power and the ability to use the weapon as effective as possible, The tyres are filled with foam in order to last longer and make the robot more mobile. the front wedges along the front panels are hinged.

(The image of Ricochet has been improved, including the weapon moved more upwards.)

The anti-spinner configuration is 2WD with a near 360 pressing lifter: 8 speed / 8 traction / 3 torque / 2 weapon / 9 armour (+3 lifter)

It's my new FW for ROBOTS and maybe CBC2 because Omerta is shit. I really don't think this needs anymore explanation, but have some anyways: All the shit you'd expect to be removable is removable. The symbol used is the two-headed Hapsburg eagle. The quote is Machiavelli. The name is from the song linked in the subtitle above. The actual title links to the album. Click it.

All right, I'm entering a bot in every weight class&#33;

Image

...wow, they're all really close in size, due to the crazy mixture of multibots, non-wheeled drivetrains, and compact vs. non-compact designs.

Anyway...

Featherweight: Firebird

Image
Image
Image

Stats:
Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 2
Armor: 10
Weapon: 13 (Drill config: 1 drill arm, 2 clamp mechanism, 10 drill. Spinner config: 1 height adjustment arm / srimech, 12 spinner. Clamp config: 2 lifter, 10 clamp, 1 Shover)

Yep, Firebird is back despite its disappointing run in CBC and the walker nerf&#33;

As a reminder, here's the previous description of how Firebird works:

<blockquote class='quote_blockquote'><dl><dt>Quote:</dt><dd>&nbsp;</dd></dl><div>Meet Chernabog's little brother, based on what else - another Disney monster, from the short intended as a spiritual successor to Night on Bald Mountain. Whether you're torn to pieces by its wings or held in place by its talons while its beak melts a hole straight through your insides, there is no escape from the primal destructive force that is... FIREBIRD&#33;

Yeah, it's another walker, and another one that moves FAST - up to 9 MPH&#33; But instead of being just a scale-down of Chernobog,
the walking mechanism is an improvement&#33;
Each leg assembly consists of what are essentially two single-acting cylinders pushing and pulling a rubber foot, which are
rigidly connected to each other. The entire foot assembly slides up and down, with spring-loading pushing it down and a set of
electromagnets raising the foot. While this mechanism lacks the fine gait control of Chernobog's legs, it also
functions without precise control of actuator position at high speeds: push fluid into the cylinder and the foot moves in the desired
path&#33; This makes the valve manifold much simpler. But it's still a walker because each leg has two independent degrees of freedom.

The basic design isn't that much different from Chernobog's hydraulic system... except the part where it's actually a pneumatic system&#33;
Hydraulic oil is just too dense and viscous to be forced through the system's smaller ports and hoses at high speed without losing
a shit-ton of pressure, so it's been replaced with CO2&#33; This is useful because at high pressures CO2 is approaching becoming a liquid,
and doesn't compress as easily as air or nitrogen, which essentially behave like ideal gases. However, the compressibility is enough
that the CO2 will also expand as it rushes into the cylinder, allowing very fast actuation under small loads and making
the overall system much more efficient.

Unlike a conventional pneumatic system, a constant amount of CO2 is stored onboard the robot, and is moved around using a powerful
pump/compressor. This works quite well because the way the cylinders are slaved to each other and don't have to deal with area differences
for push and pull strokes, the total volume of the system is basically CONSTANT. A big-ass brushless motor pulling up to 5 kW
drives the compressor.

The one drawback of this system is that it produces a lot of noise and vibration. However, the critical electronics and pumps are,
as with Chernobog, shock-mounted relative to the robot's frame, so the main thing is just that it sounds like a jackhammer having intimate relations with a jet engine. Or to put it another way, it's still ten times less obnoxious than your drumbot.

Anyway, the weapon is an idea I was throwing around on /r/battlebots: a friction drill. Basically, this spins a rough conical
bit against the target at very high speeds, while pressing it down with lots of force. It's a bit different from an abrasive drill:
the primary mechanism of causing damage is that the immense heat generated causes the target area to get so hot it softens or melts,
and the drill forces its way through. Having a red-hot spinning bit pierce the opponent's innards is an added bonus. Given sufficient time,
this thing will go through just about anything&#33; Lexan and UHMW melt like butter, and aluminum doesn't do that much better. Garolite
and carbon fiber fail when their epoxy matrix softens and the individual fibers are pushed aside or shredded. Even titanium and
hardox will eventually fail, and do so well before the tungsten or nickel superalloy bit which is used against opponents with top
covers made of those materials. The drill is mounted on a high-torque arm which also acts as a srimech, and a pair of clamping claws
hold the opponent in place while it goes to work.

The front wedge is shock-mounted and has a bit of up-down floppiness, which both helps it absorb spinner hits and isolates it from the vibration of the drivetrain, keeping it flush with the ground.

But there's also ANOTHER weapon.

For opponents without easily accessible top armor or otherwise designed in a way that makes the friction drill unusable,
Firebird also has an overcutting horizontal spinner configuration. Here, the front wedge is removed entirely and replaced with a 7 lb blade.

The blade has a single tooth and sweeps a 21" circle, and is held out in front of the robot a la
Bombshell, giving a longer reach than almost any other robot. It is mounted on a parallelogram 4-bar linkage, letting the weapon
be raised and lowered from 6" above the floor (taller than most featherweights) to nearly scraping it, allowing it to function
as both an overcutter and an undercutter, and potentially shred chains or belts, cut into support frames, or remove the wheels
from invertible robots. It may not be the most powerful weapon out there, but it's made from tempered 5160 steel instead of the harder S7, making it extremely difficult to break (weapon armor 15&#33;) and the clutch on the height adjustment arm lets it move in an out-of-plane impact. This configuration of the robot also has a self-righting arm due to the weapon's limited rotation range. This arm is connected to the crank that drives the blade support arm via a 3:1 chain drive, and runs off the same motor.
Well... as it turns out, Firebird had a lot of trouble actually using its weaponry against high-speed bricks, and with the rule changes for this event, the friction drill won't be able to one-shot heavily-armored opponents. I could have tried to make some sort of turreted or omnidirectional weapon, but that would required redesigning the entire bot... so instead I decided to be a total jackass.

Firebird's new third weapon attachment is a very long lifting arm - front outriggers and the fact that as a walker Firebird is twice the weight of most opponents keep the robot balanced. It's relatively slow, but that's not a problem because at the end of the arm is a very fast-moving spring-loaded clamp. There are also a pair of telescoping linear actuators with metal plates on the ends, which act as "shovers." How does this work? Well, this arena has a 1.5 ft tall inner wall along one corner, apparently allowing "heavyweight" clamps and lifters to get a TKO... but Firebird can actually reach that high. The idea is that it grabs its victim, picks it up, takes it to the wall, and then releases the clamp and tips it over the edge with the shovers. Yes, this is actually a real weapon that has been built, and has worked, minus the shovers.

Clamp config with jaw closed and lifter raised. Note that the lifter can actually lift about 135 degrees, because it's chain-driven and will keep going until it collides with the chassis.

Yeah, seriously, it can reach 1.5 ft high. Those are cinderblocks and a 2x4, to scale, with a 17.5 inch height. Jaw is fully opened, shovers are extended (the jaw is actually only halfway open in the lowered pic).

Also, here's how high the spinner can lift.

Lightweight: Disgruntled Ceiling Fan

Image

Stats:

Speed: 5
Traction: 2
Torque: 1
Armor: 8
Weapon: 14

Disgruntled Ceiling Fan is the most "normal" design I'm entering in ROBOTS, but I've made up for that by giving it a truly obnoxious paint job. Basically, it's a 4WD overhead spinner which can mount two different weapons: a 3 ft long, 20 lb steel bar and a Whyachi-style cage spinner of the same weight and diameter. The bar is bent downward at the ends and passes just 1/2" from the floor, which should stop most undercutters, while the cage is a bit higher at 1". With the bar fitted it can self-right via Tornado Mer Dance, and the cage has a self-righting pole a la Megabyte. It also has a hinged front wedge with angle limiters. This is for if the weapon dies but I've managed to cripple my opponent and can still push them around, and can also take a hit from long-reach undercutters and deflect them upward into DCF's blade.

Alternate Image showing cage spinner attachment.

Middleweight: PnATO (Pneumatics-Assisted TakeOff)

Image

Stats:

Speed: 7
Traction: 5
Torque: 2
Armor: 10 (+1 front wedge)
Weapon: 8

PnATO is a cam-operated shufflebot with a similar mechanism to Fission Product or the shuffle pods the original Overhaul used. Its decently quick, has strong enough armor to withstand non-ridiculous spinners and hammers, and has an extremely powerful nitrogen-powered flipper that can launch opponents five feet into the air (stroke of 15 inches at tip of arm + 8 power * 6 inches). The front wedge is hinged and the flipper scrapes against the ground.

Flipper extended
Self-righting. Good view of the shuffle feet as well.

You just know I'm dropping one in each weight class.

<big><big>Featherweight</big></big>

From the North...

<big><big><big>Howler II</big></big></big>

Image

Image

Howler was the very first robot that I designed, preceding Glacier as my Pressure Drop entry before I was generously given a mulligan because, simply put, it was horrible. I've never quite given up on the idea of a huge-hitting VS, though, but the small attack area was always the main stumbling block. With this design, I think that I've finally overcome that issue. Does this bot have much of a drivetrain? Nope, but it has tracks to mitigate knockback, as well as a good control ratio, solid armour, and a murderous weapon that nearly makes it a vertical FBS and takes advantage of the 4 point weapon armour bonus for blades shorter than the robot. When turned sideways, Howler II can act as an x-axis spinner and pseudo-strafe. As long as the weapon is running, it effectively has 12 armour (weapon armour) along its sides and in front. Also, it's both invertible and a very slippery shape that should be hard to score clean hits on.

Speed: 3 &#124; Weapon: 16 &#124; Armour: 8 &#124; Traction: 2 &#124; Torque: 1

<hr />

<big><big>Lightweight</big></big>

This started out as a trilobite and became a hot rod capturing a 30s dieselpunk-meets-Art Deco aesthetic somewhere along the way. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, and with the hammer rules updated, I'm looking forward to entering it in ROBOTS.

<big><big><big><big>Elrathia</big></big></big></big>

Image

Image

Image

Elrathia's been sitting in my brain for a while now, and this was a pretty trying render, but worth it in the end. Anyways, it's basically a walking death-hammer that uses a Glacier-style system with some panache and chutzpah. Ornamental things are removable, the chunky plow up front is on a limited hinge, as is its smaller rear counterpart. It has the speed and control to avoid being flanked and to score with its hammer.

<big>6 speed / 5 traction / 1 torque / 14 weapon / 8 armour (+2 front plow)</big>

<hr />

<big><big>Middleweight</big></big>

<big><big><big>Safe Space</big></big></big>

Image

Special Snowflake is a very unique and gifted young battlebot, but others keep trying to attack it, denying it the chance to grow and flourish as it deserves to. Some say it's thin-skinned, but White Knight will have none of that&#33; Riding to the rescue, he will valiantly protect his young charge and provide a Safe Space. Some say he's a bit slow, but these two look out for each other, and none can deny that they're quite a team.

Image

Basically, this is a cluster that can either function as an asymmetrical pair or can link together, via a series of spring-loaded latches (picture your umbrella locking into place when closed) to behave as one robot, with White Knight providing both the weapon and armour while Special Snowflake provides the drive train. They can start in either formation and can link up at any time during a match. However, once they're linked, they can't unlink. The protruding skids on White Knight are removable, of course. If you need any further clarification, click the title for a link to the album.

White Knight: 1 speed / 1 traction / 1 torque / 15 weapon / 10 armour

Special Snowflake: 7 speed / 7 traction / 7 torque / 0 weapon / 3 armour

<big><big>Heavyweight</big></big>

It's time for some brute force and ignorance, and a whole lotta speed. Prepare for a carnivorous Cretaceous clamp in the form of...

<big><big><big>REX</big></big></big>

Image
Lean, mean, and green.

Image
Rocket REX.

It's an ultra low profile walking brick for ROBOTS, with a pressing clamp and a vicious drivetrain. The robot is fully invertible and the rear walking pods are mounted on pivots to prevent REX from being high-ended. The teeth are removable and the wedges are low but steep for superior leverage, though they should still be able to slip beneath things based upon sheer impact force and their low height. A full album can be viewed by clicking the title, which is highly recommended.

So, is REX perfectly optimized? Nope&#33; Is it still badass and hella dangerous? You betcha&#33; This thing is going to be fun to drive if nothing else.
