Monthly Special Event: Challenge Belt

Post by The Monsterworks » Wed Nov 16, 2016 11:12 pm

<big><big>January Event: Challenge Belt</big></big>

Tournaments are too easy - too predictable. You know who you're facing and when. There's a nice little bracket. You have forever to prepare. Nobody gets punched in the goddamned teeth unexpectedly, and - let's be honest - we usually know that the champion is coming from a very small pool of favourites in each weight class.

Fuck brackets.

Introducing the Challenge Belt. It's actually two belts, because the two governing bodies, the WRCO and the NARCO, couldn't agree on who to give the belt to. Up until December 30, you can enter a robot in the lightweight division: any robot, though walkers will be capped at 34. You'll also pick a number from 1-100 and post that in your signup.

On January 1, whenever I wake up, the WRCO (World Robotic Combat Organization) belt will be handed to the robot whose number is closest to the one that I'll randomize from an online generator live on discord. The NARCO belt will be given to whoever's number is furthest. Those who are second closest and second furthest have Money in the Bank. That means that they have first right of challenge against either belt holder, which they can exercise once, at any time, bypassing all other rules and bumping them to the top of the precedence list. They do not have to use it immediately, though they may choose to do so.

Once the belts have been assigned, you can make threads challenging a champion (don't use the name of the robot, use the name of their belt, i.e. "Slither challenges for the WRCO belt"). However, it's first come, first serve. If somebody makes a thread before you, they have precedence, and you are second in the order of precedence. Whatever you do, don't RP yet&#33; The champion will accept your challenge by naming the arena where the fight will be held from one of the NARCO arenas. You are then both free to RP for the fight. If you are lower in the order of precedence and the champion loses before he can face you, your challenge is still valid. It will simply apply to the new champion, and the process will remain the same otherwise. You may edit the name of the robot that you are challenging in your post if you wish.

If you lose your challenge, you may not challenge again for 96 hours (four days). If you win, you are now the belt holder. Belt holders have a few expectations: They must respond to the top challenge in the order of precedence within 48 hours of it being issued by first choosing the arena where the fight will take place and then RPing. Failure to do so will result in the champion forfeiting his belt to the challenger. No exceptions. If you hold a belt, you may not issue challenges. You may only defend.

Writers will have 24 hours to submit their match reports following each fight, but let's be real: it's literally only one fight at a time, so this is easy stuff.

So, how do you win? This event runs until midnight on the 31st of January. Then, the two robots that have held any combination of the two belts for the longest will each be assigned a belt and will fight in a unification match. RPs will be due on February 4, and a grand champion will be announced on February 5. That bot will hold both belts until next year's event.

Sign up below. The entry cap is 12.

I caved and made a brick. Shamelessly plow-stacking thwack. 2WD so that its wedge is actually good. Nice control ratio, solid torque, shit-tons of shock-mounting behind the plow, and can actually hurt spinners by thwacking. The design is an expression of my anarchist beliefs. Fight the power. :dirk:

10 Speed &#124; 9 Traction &#124; 4 Torque &#124; 0 Weapon &#124; 7 Armour (+3 front plow)

Yep, Firebrand is a LW now. I'll make something in the same general mold to replace it at HW.

Also, my number is 36.

2WD grabber/lifter/what have you. Only the top jaw moves, the bottom jaws are static. Cambered wheels for the cool factor. Rear plow is hinged and removable (internal ballast is added in its place to make up the weight). Can also run inverted.

Speed: 7
Weapon: 2
Armor: 12 (+2 to the rear plow)
Traction: 6

Hmm. Lightweights..... I know&#33; I'll enter 1/2 of the Eternal Storm cluster. Don't worry, it's not Rolling Thunder (I'm not entering a big ass ball into a challenge belt event :P )
It's White Lightning&#33;
Image
No, the wedges do not have *that* much ground clearance. Tinkercad just likes to make random shadows sometimes :v:
Image
Hooray for spinner protection&#33;
Image
The Thundercloud (thwacking attachment
Yay&#33; It's finished&#33; 2WD flipper with two static wedges for good measure. White Lightning is not meant to be a very powerful bot. Instead, it uses it's rediculous speed to run circles around slower bots, and flip them as they try to keep up. The flipping arm has a range of about 80 degrees. But what about those crazy spinners? Don't worry. WL also has an optional rear plow to keep those spinning bars at bay, or get under anything with a damaging weapon. There's also a small rounded bar in the middle of the plow to prevent monster trucking. And this plow can actually get under things this time :v: The wheels have also been updated a bit in this LW version, now with better wheel placement and gold hubcaps. White Lightning can also right itself and drive upside down with the plow attachment on (I have pictures if needed for proof). But of course a fast bot like this should also have a fitting weapon for taking out the less-fortunate low armored. Why not a thwacking attachment. The Thundercloud is an optional hinged thwacking tail with an axe head on either side. There's no escape from this storm

STATS
Speed: 10- ALL OF THE SPEED
Traction: 8
Armor: 9 (+2 rear plow)
Weapon: 1
Torque: 2

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

I caved and made a spinner. Drum is on a pivoting assembly, like Viluy's and Archetype's, so it's invertible. It's a single weapon, like Howler's, so it has limited x-axis capabilities. It's a control spinner like Powerdrive, so that it actually has some speed. 2WD wedge on the back, so it has options. Inspired by TRON and late 70s/early 80s sci-fi styles.

6 speed / 4 traction / 1 torque / 13 weapon / 6 armour (+1 to the drum)

4WD Maximus/Original Sin hybrid rammer. Has a shit-ton of ground clearance to drive over bots, two wedge set-ups (flat-edged and toothed) and a third one, a nice anti-spinner set-up. Anti-monster truck spikes can be added to each wedge set-up, on either side; they are removable and the wedges still work fine when inverted, even with the spikes on. Sleipnir's back.

However, it now has a hinged configuration, a la Original Sin, and an anti-hammer configuration, which is designed to prevent hammers reaching the body by making the wedge really really tall.

Here it is.

Stats:
Speed: 9
Traction: 7
Torque: 4
Weapon: 0
Armour: 10 (+4 to the front wedge).

Number is 55.

This experimental bot has no real drivetrain. It works like a top toy: spinning bottom plate makes contact with the ground, and top section uses its hydraulic gimbal system to offset center of mass, providing the bot with a somewhat controllable omnidirectional motion. Top section has a gyro flywheel that stops it from spinning in the opposite direction, powered by weapon motor.

It can <del>self-right</del> self-wrong by using its gimbal system to roll over.
