Ruination: The Contagion - Awards/Final Results

Post by That Kode Guy » Tue Feb 02, 2016 3:48 pm

Well, it's time to close out the tournament, so before we get to the juicy meat of the results, let's take a moment to give recognition to those in the tournament for their excellence.

----

AWARDS

Strategist Award
We had a lot of very good tacticians during the tournament, including Gabe Hopp, Alex from British-Robotics, and the ever familiar Josh Noel. Nick Fisher of Team Mongoose was particularly infamous for his analytic approach. But the clear winner was Team Covenant's Kody Kunz whose memorable mindwaves got all four of his entrants into the Semi-Finals. Congratulations, but don't think too much Kody, otherwise your head will explode! ;)

Astrobot Award
The rookie of the tournament that defied all other rookies. We had startling Lightweight successes Cuddle Time! and Veto, and Heavyweight flipper Chimera. Middlweight Suplex made quite the splash himself, arguably the most successful clampbot of the tournament. However, leaving a blazing path of destruction in his wake, the ultimate rookie is definitely worthy: Chemical Explosion, of Team British Robotics.

Falling Down Award
There are just some robots out there that you don't think much of at all. Well, people didn't seem to hold King Dedede or Suplex in high regard at first, or Lightweight finalist Cuddle Time!, who made the bottom of the list of many people. But in this case, outrageousness begets scorn, which is what this clusterbot spinner endured piles upon piles of throughout the tournament; Libra of Team Covenant takes home the award.

Copperhead Award
For the robot that just plowed through all the rest, the most aggressive of all. But oddly enough, five robots take home this award, being the ultimate of the ultimate; Shadow Zone Forever of Team Covenant, Brute Force of Team Cha0sFerret, March or Die of Team playzooki, Mandetta of Team Varying Every Day, and Angry Goat of... erm, Angry Goat Robotics. :v:

Sarge Award
You know those old rascals that were horrible in their past season? The ones that actually made good names for themselves here? Stabstract, Mandetta, and Jinx all had poor previous seasons that they improved upon. Even Rocket Knight had a previous season he'd rather forget about. But what about King Dedede, of Team Blood Gulch? Did you forget about Reign of Steel? Josh sure would like to. :P A 1-9 record with his only win against Team Targeted's Square Wave, King Dedede improved to #2 in the Middleweights after a hard-fought rumble. Hup hup hup, indeed. King Dedede takes the Sarge Award.

The Windmill Award
Everyone loves to see one bot kick the shit out of the other, and damage is what this award is all about. The Eudial and Frequency duo were quite notable in this regard, as were the walking spinner Endgame and the appropriately named Glass Cannon. But the winner of the Astrobot award also takes this one, as Chemical Explosion of Team British Robotics rounded up about 8 absolutely devastating KOs during the tournament thus far. All damage control to you, TBR!

Blood Thirsty Award
Let's get down to it; some bots are just COOL. Amazing to look at. We have flipper Upchuck and grabber Suplex, as well as the double disc of Barley Picker. But we have a split for this award, as yet again the radical tracks and blade of Chemical Explosion from Team British Robotics cruises to an award win alongside Heavyweight Semi-Finalist flipper Redemption Denied of Team Blood Gulch. Now put away those shades, guys.

Scatterbrain Award
It's okay to be cool and all, but what about originality? Who tried an idea that was most interesting? There was certainly creativity in Kraze's vacuum system, as well as Translaytor's 1WD set-up and Tesla's Revenge's disc arm with a dustbin below. Jackelyn Cryderman came close with the weirdness of its vertical spinner and omni-wheel set-up. But who really shined was Suplex of Team Cha0sFerret. The axlebot's clamping/lifting system was not only hard to beat, but also difficult to control, and thus strategize against. It seemed to succeed where some other clampbots failed, and is prime to follow G-Force's Shockwave as a successful Middleweight clampbot. Kudos.

Barrier Award
To cap it all off, we must recognize the brilliance of the builders, those who pour their heart and soul into the ingenuity of their creations. This award goes to the best engineered robot. Shadow Zone Forever and LashCoil, the two Heavyweight finalists, had impressive tooling, as did Redemption Denied's well-designed low flipper and Latvian Gambit's lifter which was clever enough to work both ways up, while still delivering awesome leverage to get underneath robots. But there can only be one winner this time, and Agent X of Team Mongoose steals it with its incredibly versatile 360 degree lifting arm set-up, which can act as a keep-away piece, a lifter, a clamp, and a spinner buffer. He has it all, and that's why the Barrier Award goes to him.

Now enough of that, let's get to the real reason why we're here - THE FINALS!!!
