Too much animation?

Post by succotash_54 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 5:46 pm

Just wondering what our bandwidth situation for the forums is.... or if it's animated gifs that are at issue. I have no problems with the main page of the forums, but reading a specific thread, things are getting severely slowed up. Methinks it's the abundance of animated gifs in our avatars and sigs, but it may be just me too. So I'm asking now... anyone else having a problem?

whats your connection? im on a 10mbps connection right now and every page loads in less than half a second except the sign up threads which, obviously take a little longer.

I'm at work... so I imagine it's as fast a speed as we can get.

its probably just your connection then. the counter at the bottom of hte page is telling me that, on average, these pages are getting created in 0.008 seconds, while the signup page was created in around 0.64 seconds. the .gifs aren't making any difference on my end, but they probably do suck up bandwidth enough that they'd be noticable for whatever shitty connection you've got at work

Maybe it's just me... pages are loading fine now... though on longer threads, it's still a little slower.

Don't know about you guys but the forum seems fine to me, and I'm on a machine that's at least 5 years old.

Need to get a new one fast. The internet is starting to prove burdensome in parts. Unfortunately, nobody makes new laptops that I like anymore. The only replacements I'm considering are already 3 years old.
