I thought I'd better do an updated list too, hehe ;P
My overall taste hasn't changed a great deal - I actually did a 'longlist' of about fifty songs to whittle down and all but ten were from the 1980s - but I have discovered more artists and bands and a few genres that were unknown to me previously.

#25: "Feel The Same" - Chapterhouse
#24: "Wonderful Life" - Black
#23: "Broken Wings" - Mr. Mister
#22: "Love Like Blood" - Killing Joke
#21: "Golden Brown" - Stranglers
#20: "Wind Of Change" - Scorpions
#19: "Everlong" - Foo Fighters
#18: "(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight" - Cutting Crew
#17: "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" - Ultravox
#16: "Head Over Heels" - Tears for Fears
#15: "Take My Breath Away" - Berlin
#14: "Dancing In The Dark" - Bruce Springsteen
#13: "The Whole Of The Moon" - Waterboys
#12: "The Navy Song" - Billy Talent
#11: "L'aventurier" - Indochine
#10: "Enjoy The Silence" - Depeche Mode
#9: "Don't Dream It's Over" - Crowded House
#8: "Inside" - Stiltskin
#7: "Shout" - Tears for Fears
#6: "Waiting For A Star To Fall" - Boy Meets Girl
#5: "Kayleigh" - Marillion
#4: "Like To Get To Know You Well" - Howard Jones

Sure, I'll jump on this thing. Despite the fact my song preferences seem to change about every three weeks.

3) Tool - Vicarious
4) Metallica - Blackened
5) Tool - Hooker With A Penis

I've been holding off just because I'm trying to put together my ULTIMATE Top 25... not just songs I'm digging at the moment or whatever, but an ultimate Top 25 for me. So far, I can say it will DEFINITELY include the following songs:

1. "The Hallelujah Chorus" by Georg Frederic Handel
2. "All Things Must Pass" by George Harrison
3. "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke
4. "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" by Sam And Dave
5. "People Get Ready" by the Impressions
6. "The Last Mile Of The Way" by the Soul Stirrers
7. "Empty Garden" by Elton John

So far, I've noticed that they all have a very deliberate tempo to them.

Some others that are in strong contention to be on THE Top 25:

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon And Garfunkel
"Why Not Now" by Timi Yuro
"Play Me Like You Play Your Guitar" by Duane Eddy
"That's The Way Love Is" by Del Shannon
"I Need A Doctor" by Dr. Dre feat. Eminem and Skylar Grey
a good number of Four Seasons songs ("Rag Doll" "Carol Of The Bells" "Opus 17" "I've Got You Under My Skin")
"Try To Find Another Woman" and "American Rock And Roll" by the Righteous Brothers
"One Too Many Mornings" by the Association
"Walls" and "Free At Last" by DC Talk
"Cease For Peace" and "Come Back Home" by D-Boy
a number of Beatles songs ("And Your Bird Can Sing" "Wait" "She Loves You" "The Ballad Of John And Yoko", etc.)
"Hey Tonight" by CCR

all really good songs... just not sure if they're good enough for THE Top 25.

Yeah I can't really do that, my favourites change almost daily. Granted, I'm still fond of the tunes of old favourites like Boston, Aerosmith, Journey, and the like, but I'm into more modern stuff nowadays, and I really can't pick anything real solid from my huge list of tunes, I love them all to death.

I can more or less agree with that. I could probably nail down a fairly solid top 15 or so, but there always seems to be a little bit of wiggle room near the end of that 25 cut-off where songs can rotate in or out. I find I have a similar situation when I try to rank my top movies, the first 7-8 are pretty much set, but the last 2 or so tend to end up in a revolving door at times.

True, but the fact that I've been able to nail down 7 or 8 that concretely gives me hope I could actually do.

It's kinda hard for me to make a list like this, considering different songs mean different things to me and the sentimentality and memory associated with a certain song might rank it higher than what I'd consider to be my favorite musical quality but...

1. Slow Cheetah - Red Hot Chili Peppers
2. Bullet With Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins
3. 1979 - Smashing Pumpkins
4. Peaches - Presidents of the United States of America
5. Hard To Concentrate - Red Hot Chili Peppers
6. Talk Shows On Mute - Incubus
7. Heart Shaped Box - Nivana
8. Plateau - Nirvana
9. Dosed - Red Hot Chili Peppers
10. I want You Too - Weezer
11. The Distance - Cake
12. Around The World - Daft Punk
13. The Pretender - Foo Fighters
14. El Manana - Gorillaz
15. Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz
16. Porcelain - Moby
17. Sleepy Head - Passion Pit
18. Naked and Famous - Presidents of the United States of America
19. On Mercury - Red Hot Chili Peppers
20. Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins
21. Wet Sand - Red Hot Chili Peppers
22. Thirty-Three - Smashing Pumpkins
23. Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
24. Money - Pink Floyd
25. All Star - Smash Mouth

Top 25 Favorite Songs

Rather than give a top 25, I'll give you the songs that are on the last Random Favorites disc I burned. I've got about 12 of these so far. These aren't really all that reflective since there are a couple "ground rules" I lay, though I don't even abide by those all the time either.

1. "Good Day" by Ormandy
2. "Bang Pop" by High Energy
3. "Always Have, Always Will" by Ace Of Base
4. "Tick Tock" by Marvin And Johnny
5. "Glow Worm" by the Mills Brothers
6. "See The Changes" by Crosby, Stills, And Nash
7. "Leave A Light On For Me" by Belinda Carlisle
8. "Hold On Tight" by Electric Light Orchestra (seriously, does anyone else think of Jerry Lee Lewis when they hear this one?)
9. "Il A Neige Sur Yesterday" by Marie LaForet (I don't speak a bit of French... I know it's about the Beatles, though. I'm guessing the title means "Now I Long For Yesterday", taken from the line in the Beatles' song)
10. "How You Like Me Now" by the Heavy
11. "Just A Dream" by Nelly
12. "Secrets" by OneRepublic (I'm a sucker for Timbaland's style of production)
13. "Never Met A Girl Like You Before" by the Stooges
14. "Sin City" by the Flying Burrito Brothers
15. "The Last Mile Of The Way" by the Soul Stirrers
16. "Let's Go Together" by the Raindrops
17. "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz
18. "Wait A Minute, Here She Comes" by Tim Tam And The Turn-Ons
19. "Opblaas Krokodil" by Ome Henk (you can thank Anthony for that one)
20. "Home In Pasadena" by the Skylarks
21. "In Your Perfect World" by Firehouse
22. all-star jam.... I can't be too certain, but I think this was the all-star jam at the end of one of the very first Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremonies, either '86 or '87. It sounds like they're playing "Reconsider Baby" and it DEFINITELY features B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, and Little Richard... I think Tina Turner's in there somewhere too.

A lot of this is completely and totally alien to me ;P

I've been listening to quite a bit of Mike Oldfield lately - Tubular Bells is a fantastic work but his 1980s pop music ventures aren't too bad either, although some are an acquired taste.

Are you sure that "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" was by the Spinners? I thought that was the Chi-Lites... or the Delfonics.

Also, nice to see that obscure Drifters number make it onto your list. Really a great song.

The Spinners did a cover on their "Can't Shake This Feelin'" album. I could have just as easily gone with the Delfonics version though.
