RA2- IRL thread

Talk about the lastest in Nintendo, X-box and, if you can afford it, Playstation. Don't forget about PCs and handhelds, but if you go old-ass Atari on us, we'll cut you off at the knees.

RA2- IRL thread

Post by NFX » Sun Mar 02, 2014 3:10 pm

Here's a dump of some old stuff I made. I don't really use RA2 anymore, so consider this a "greatest hits" of sorts.

First up, Bishop. Funny looking axebot, made more for aesthetics rather than combat effectiveness. Which I considered the whole point of RA2 IRL building. Others disagreed, but hey. You know what I'm like.

Next up is Cage of Mirrors, big vertical spinner inspired by John's old Deadstar/Darkstar design. This is one of my personal favourites, even if it didn't win a single match. Still, looks above all else was how I rolled at the time.

Image

Iron Oxide this time. One of, if not the only IRL bot I designed in Stock rather than DSL. Still looks just as awesome as the others, and won the Best Design award in the tournament it was entered in. Also won the King of the Hill side event, so managed to team looking great with good results.

Image

Mastodon. Started out as an experiment using parts I didn't normally use, and turned out rather well. Never entered into competition, though. I think.

And finally, The Highlander III. Had two prior incarnations, reached the Grand Final of one of the Battlebots tournaments over on GTM, and then inspired Braveheart over here. So this has been probably the most successful of my IRL designs.

I still love Cage of Mirrors.

I cant help but think most of these would do well in an ARC competition...

Aruba! I knew I recognised that flag. Could be pretty good for thwacking, but I'd maybe improve the pushability of it. I don't think it'll work too well with such a pointy front end.

Battlesnake is interesting, but I don't like the square shape. Seems a little unbalanced to me.

Green Attack looks great, but I'm very confused as to how the weapon works. Is it meant to be a four-bar lifter?

Six wheeled comet thing should be pretty effective. I like the barbs along the sides as well, hopefully that doesn't hinder invertibility.

Tracked spinner could be good with a bigger disc and a wider wheelbase. But then it would just be SteveOUT, so fnarg.

Mini Maniac might work well if the wedge is good enough. Hopefully it doesn't get high-sided.

KC3 looks awesome, apart from the wheels being too close together.

Bar spinner is great, the spreading spikes on the back are fantastic somehow.
