Captain Chicken's ears were ringing from the gunshots and bubble explosions. She knew Flashback was a good shot, and Natural Twenty had flash stepped through every bullet while tagging two of her teammates. That had to mean she was using her power, and that her power was doing something screwy. She rolled to her feet and scanned the street. "PLAN B! LIKE WE DREW IT UP! FORCE, CLOSE ON FLASH'S POSITION!"

KA-CHICKENATE!

The hero's power flared into life and instantaneously, Sour Cherry Blaster was a human again. Well, parahuman. Whatever. The key part wasn't her. The key part was that Nat Twenty... wasn't a human any more. She was a chicken, with everything that that entailed. Nat's guns and prosthetic leg clattered to the floor. The grenade followed suit with a clunk, deafening despite the noise of battle. Robyn counted to three in her head, looking for where SCB had got to. Yep, there-

KA-CHICKENATE!

Nat was back in human form, her sudden appearance almost directly underneath Flashback sending the hero into the air.

"Nick, get to cover and try to kneecap SCB when she's human again! I'm gonna go for Big Wing now! Faust, converge demons on the enormous chicken when he's down but try not to hurt him!"

Captain Chicken broke cover and ran towards the fray, her baton swinging down in her hand. She wasn't built for long-distance running but she could still sprint fairly fast. She looked up to the sky, hoped Nick was in position, and-

KA-CHICKENATE!

Chickens couldn't fly. This one was heading to the ground at surprising speed, but it'd be fine. The Captain just had to have a little faith, especially as it was starting to flutter downwards.

The internal commentary was gone. The voice telling her she'd never amount to anything wasn't there any more. In that split second, on a mission for the Liberty Corps in a battle against dangerous foes, with death a risk at every moment...

Robyn Swift was free.

Nick hobbles into a nearby building. "Damn it, she got me good." With nothing else to do, he steadies himself against a wall and sends a message over MODS. "Fall back. Hurt bad. Leg shot." Then another standard message. "Lenny, I need a new bat with the package. You know the kind. I'll pay you good for it." Then, he waits for one of the villains to walk past.

Team A

Flashback's heroic dive catches Roxy partially by surprise. The supervillain leaps backward, but she isn't quite fast enough to avoid Maybelle completely. She doesn't even notice that her prosthetic has been grabbed until it's already devolved into a crude, eighteenth-century piece made of wood and leather. But she has bigger problems. Her throwing motion interrupted, she has a split second to realize Captain Chicken's game before she finds herself in galliform. Her guns and duffel bag clatter to the ground, along with the useless prosthetic. Three arduous seconds pass while a chicken runs for her life.

Meanwhile, Force is closing fast on Flashback's position. The injured super is scrambling to her feet, clutching at her abdomen, but there are bubbles heading straight for her and the grenade mere feet away. Force sprints towards her, punching explosive bubbles out of the way and then...

She punches a bubble that doesn't explode. Overbalanced, she lurches forward, sucked in and absorbed by it. At nearly the exact same time, KA-CHICKENATE! Nat Twenty is human again, sans leg and sans grenade. Diving away from grenade and incoming bubble alike, she lurches into Flashback and both women tumble to the side. Grenade and bouncing bubble meet at the very moment of explosion, and most of it ends up being contained. The goods have changed tactics, but so have the bads. Force hammers at the inside of her bubble, unable to break free but able to fling herself in random directions with the sheer power of her blows. Nick, bleeding pretty heavily, has lurched into a damaged building, dialing something on his phone and sending a distress call through MODS.

KA-CHICKENATE!

Big Wing roughly doubles in size and becomes an entirely different sort of bird, fluttering clumsily to the ground. The Bubbler scrambles backwards to avoid being squished. Dozens of demons swarm over the giant chicken. Dozens of bubbles swarm over them. Flashback and Natural Twenty are on the ground, fighting desperately over a gun. Captain Chicken, more alive than she's felt in years, charges, baton in hand, determined to be so much more than a meme. Problem is that Sour Cherry Blaster is free and Nick is in no position to close the distance on her before she can zap him dead unless she happens to walk right in front of him.

She doesn't.

To be fair, seeing him duck into a building, she starts to turn in his direction, but The Bubbler shouts at her and her two brain cells to maintain her range. At nearly the same time, Roxy adds her voice to the chaos. "Immy, hit the bag! Red Blasters! Do it!" Captain Chicken is mere yards away, somehow not dead or even significantly injured. Bubbles bounce and roll by, variously containing random objects that they've picked up, trapped demons, Force, and nothing but air. One brushes one of her arms and starts to suck her in, but she breaks free of it and keeps moving. Stay on target! she tells herself, like that guy from Star Wars who died tragically and heroically during the first Death Star run. It seems that a bubble has to envelop more than about half of you before you're inescapably pulled in. That would explain why Big Wing hasn't been enveloped. He's just too damned big.

Grimacing uncertainly, Imogen follows her friend's instructions. She turns to face the bag and starts zapping away, missing twice and cursing loudly. Nick, crazy brave guy that he is, seizes the opportunity and hurtles out of cover. Well, 'hobbles' is more like it. She fires again. Captain Chicken is almost level with Big Wing now. The enormous chicken flaps, pecks, and jumps around, smashing cars and squishing demons and a single, panicking citizen beneath its feet. Another bubble starts to suck her in, but she fights it off. The Bubbler is no more than a dozen yards ahead, and that's when it happens.

Robyn has no way of seeing it - she doesn't have eyes in the back of her head - but Nat Twenty is already acting. Giving up on the fight for the gun, she releases Maybelle and hurls herself backwards. Twisting in midair, she hops once and dives into an approaching bubble. Flashback's aim is perfect: two bullets arrow straight for Roxy's center of mass, but then she's safe in the bubble and the first bullet slows to a crawl upon impact and plops harmlessly in while the second pings off of the hardened shield.

Less harmless is when Imogen finally hits home with a blast. The bag full of explosives detonates with a deafening noise and a shockwave that you can feel in your chest. Close to the epicenter and with mere moments to react, Flashback makes a snap decision to throw herself at a closer bubble instead of Roxy's. She's inside by the barest of margins as flame envelops it. Strangely enough, she notices that the bubble is almost entirely soundproof. SCB is safe, of course. She took cover inside one the moment that her laser struck true.

Big Wing doesn't have that option. Wings flapping frantically, the giant chicken leaps into the air, landing on a third story rooftop. about fifty yards away. Demons tumble off of him (her?) like so much dirt, those not protected returning to the flames from whence they came. The Bubbler calmly makes a bubble for himself and that's when Robyn finally glances backwards. A massive, roiling wall of fire thunders towards her, pushing any bubbles in her path away. However, a handful ride its blast wave and one, containing a queasy-looking Natural Twenty, bounds straight for her. A couple of others are a bit further, but she could probably make it to them. The heat is incredible! The draft is unbearable. She has split seconds to decide!

Caught a handful of yards from his safe spot in the store, Nick has a decision of his own to make. He can try to scramble back inside, which is a bit more of a risk but allows him to act freely after the explosion if he makes it, or he can let the next passing bubble envelop him. Flames rush for him at a terrifying speed. Shit! Goddammit! What will he do?

Faust is quite far from the epicenter of everything and she might get a little bit singed, but there's no significant threat to anything but her hair, eyebrows, and ego. When the dust settles, a tantalizing choice awaits her: she can continue to fight Big Wing, who's scrambled to safety, or there's always the other option...she can flip sides, bring one of these losers in to the enemy group's mysterious boss, and get in good with them right away, or at least pretend to.

((--(( Reposting this so that it doesn't get buried. Super-important and waiting for a response once a few Team B members are online. ))--))

Team B

Jenna pilots the hovercraft like a seasoned pro, and Team B actually passes Team A by such a large margin that the other group's vehicle is out of sight before long. They arrive at a brownfield industrial site close to where Constitution Street meets the Santa Anita Parkway at the southern border of the city. The streets are eerily empty. Fires are burning. There's rubble and smashed glass. Rolling Thunder is freaking out over MODS. "Guys," she's whispering, "watch out. They're not even trying to make it to the other team. They've set this place up to fuck with us. I'm just around the corner but I got a good look before. No sign of Spooge or Conrad anywhere, but the rest are in an open-front cafe. Biscuits has all of her goodies laid out. It's got two steps up, so I can't get in there at full speed. Photobomb's ready. They have hostages, laid out in the street, unconscious, lots of them. We can't let that bunch"

No sooner has she delivered her message than the hovercraft arrives. The heroes start to step out.. Before all of them are even visible, Green Freedom steps forward and begins talking. "Yo like... no more steps or these people eat it. Monica's only gotta press one button on her phone..." Indeed, her finger is on the figurative trigger. A dozen people lie on the street unconscious, at the Savage Six's mercy.

The spirit took a good, hard look at the scene: Photobomb needed to be neutralized, or at least her phone did. Thing is, the spirit could still manifest orbs, and it didn't have to be right next to him: he could "spawn" them some distance away, nothing too big. Right now, the phone laid decently within manifestation range for the orbs, and the spirit was decently sure it could manifest a physical one before Photobomb could take a selfie. If he did so successfully..well, a physical orb would displace Photobomb's hand and phone, leaving her without the opportunity to use her power. If he failed....you know what will happen.

Sandy Man's spirit took one long, hard gaze, and summoned the physical orb, the pale, light blue sphere coming into existence.

Team B

The orb materializes in front of Photobomb and it works! ISH She staggers out of line with the hostages, nearly dropping her cellphone, but manages to snap off a quick non-selfie picture of Jackson's Spirit. "Fuckin' bogus, dude!" Green Freedom shouts. It's been almost ten seconds! Every member of the part begins feeling a compulsion to light up a joint and smoke it. Then, Green Freedom yawns. The Narcoleptic has been staring him down since even before the hovercraft stopped moving. "Man, who spiked my fuckin -" yawn "drink?" he collapses.

The team's work is far from done, however. Photobomb has her device in position once again. Orange Marauder squirts some juice at it, shattering the windoe through sheer high pressure, but the projectile is dodged. Crisis only very momentarily abated. People fan out into their assigned roles, though Rolling Thunder seems to be missing. As planned, The Amazing Black Hole charging Susie Biscuits but then, something happens. His feet just go right out from under him. He slips and falls, sliding slowly and out of control across the pavement. Photobomb keeps taking pictures of everyone she can see, even if she can't quite line up a selfie. The remaining villains, still inside the store, duck behind a wall, daring the heroes to come after them. Strange, the Spirit never feels sick. It doesn't even eat. ((OOC: correct me if I'm wrong)) However, it feels a strange, unstable abdominal pain, almost as if something inside of it is making it sick.

Force pulls a utility knife from her bag, and starts stabbing with that. She could feel the power of past impacts built up in side of her, and picks a target (whoever is closest and fits in the bubble and is an enemy :V). Even if she can’t get out of this bubble, she could sure as hell trap one of them in here with her, and then cosplay some rorschach on their asses

The situation was no longer as dire for the heroes, but they still had work to do. Green Freedom was out cold, and Photobomb's phone was damaged, but not quite destroyed. The rest of the villains were hiding in a store, and oh yeahRolling Thunder was missing. Sure would be useful to have her at the moment. The spirit, for whatever reason, felt pain. Probably something to do with Susie Biscuits.

Still, the priority was getting rid of Photobomb's device, and the spirit deduced that it and Orange Marauder would be the best suited to doing so. "Hey! OM! Try to do a high pressure blast with your orange juice at Photobomb, while I use my orbs again", hissing loud enough for OM to hear but not loud enough for the rest of the villains.

Taking aim, the spirit manifested two physical orbs close-ish to the phone, propelling them towards it. Hopefully, in her panicked state, Photobomb would fail to dodge, allowing the orbs to nail her and her phone. Even if it failed in the moment, the spirit had some leeway to try again. Not much, though.

Black Hole slides a few meters, attempting to lick himself free of the substance. Eventually, he gets back on his feet, walking around whatever is was that caused him to slip. He eats whatever he is given by Susie, breaking it up in two quick bites. While running around eating the baked items, he works his way in on getting to Susie and grabbing her with his jaws. Whatever he can grab. He also sees photobomb trying to take a second picture. If I can get to Biscuits before she makes something else delicious, I can grab her with my big ol teeth and drag her over to photobomb while using her as a meat shield. Maybe I can use my sizzler weapon (3 foot long fork) as cover by throwing it. I could even knock the phone out of her hand with my luck. But I need to make sure that I have a good hold on Biscuits

Team A

The best laid of plans...

Everyone ends up in a bubble, with the exceptions of Nick, Faust, and Big Wing. While the giant chicken continues to do battle with an army of shitty demons, Captain Chicken finds herself in the same bubble as Natural Twenty. Surprisingly, nobody gets chickenated (or stabbed, or shot, or whatever). Nobody can see what the two of them discuss, but they're clearly talking, and they're not hurting each other. At some point, Big Wing makes a point of knocking their bubble into a sunken courtyard outside of some shops. Perhaps he's figured out that Captain Chicken needs line of sight. Meanwhile, Flashback remains in her bubble in a world of thankfully-not-life-threatening pain. She's safe but helpless for the time being.

Force isn't about to take this lying down, however. Hammering at the inside of her bubble with a utility knife with such force that she eventually snaps one of its blades, she propels herself towards The Bubbler. Then, just like that, he's gone. There's a moment where Elisabeth could swear that she saw a black blur working its way through the debris, but then... nothing. She turns her efforts towards Sour Cherry Blaster, and their bubbles collide, but one does not absorb the other. She settles for using all of her built-up strength to slam her bubble into her enemy's. It careens, out of control, into a storefront, rebounds equally hard, and eventually rolls to a stop with the villain unconscious inside. Then... she's gone too. There's the same black blur. Sour Cherry Blaster disappears, and Force is left with nothing to do. She heads for Big Wing, but there's no way to absorb him. Maybe she can play some giant chicken bowling. She has one go at his legs and then a second, but his strides are colossal, and he's able to dodge her both times without much effort. He hops back onto a rooftop where he was earlier, clucking angrily at Faust, who continues to launch the occasional halfhearted demon attack.

Then that wheelchair girl... what was her name? Rolling Thunder? shows up. She comes to a stop in front of Elisabeth's bubble. She's saying things, but nothing makes it through the bubble. Cuing in to that, she reaches in her backpack, takes out a paper pad and pen with superhuman speed, and writes something. "Can't reach you on MODS. Hang tight. Try to get somewhere safe. Bubbles expire after an hour. I'm gonna catch up with Nick. He's found Hackslash. She's okay but she's bubbled too." Then, she zips off towards the store that Nick's been hiding in, taking a moment to haul herself awkwardly up a couple of steps. Meanwhile, somewhat alarmingly, Big Wing turns back into a pelican, and then back into a person. It takes Elisabeth a moment to figure out that he and Faust are talking. About what, infuriatingly, she can't hear, but about something.

Nick, having taken a risk and dived for cover in a building instead of a bubble when Roxy's duffel bag of death blew up, is not regretting his decision. He's found Hackslash and he's found a personal tablet belonging to Walter Weissbach - Big Wing. Calling in Amber was his idea, and she's already carted two badguys off to a police station. Now, he sits in the ruined shop, his wound freshly (and sloppily) patched up, going through the contents of the tablet with Amber. That's when he finds out about Project Hiroshima. That's when she jets out the door at full super speed, sending out a warning across MODS:

"This is a systemwide alert. Big Wing is attempting to link up with Photobomb. They're gonna use her powers to kill everyone at the game in the Tesla Center!"

Even as that message sends, he can see Big Wing scooping up Flashback's bubble. He goes for Force's next. Faust is rushing towards him, alarm written plainly across her face. "We need to regroup," she's saying, "Figure out how to handle this." In the middle of the boulevard, Force is picked up and tossed back into the great pelican's pouch. He hovers mere feet above the ground, starting to lift off. "Team!" comes a message through MODS, "It's Hank! I'm on my way to the Tesla Center along with everyone else we could scrape up! This is an emergency evacuation! If you don't have anything to do there, join Team B. You need to stop Photobomb before Big Wing can reach her! Recoil out!"

:face_vomiting: Team B :face_vomiting:

The Narcoleptic, exhausted, staggers back into the hovercraft and sits down. Meanwhile, The Amazing Black Hole can do little but slowly slide forward in the direction that his momentum is carrying him. Strange, he's suddenly started feeling really, really sick to the stomach! That never happens! Nearby, Orange Marauder, gathering juice for another precision blast, doubles over suddenly and full-on vomits all over the pavement. Jackson's spirit, however, is a little bit tougher than your average human. Photobomb stops dead in her tracks, in a tighter area of the restaurant between a quartet of support pillars, and faces the team, preparing a deadly selfie. An pair of orbs start to materialize right in her face, but she dives to the side, predicting the attack. The spheres expand rapidly and then... they get stuck: on a pillar, indelibly stuck. Photobomb doesn't score the finisher she was hoping for, but she still snaps off a shot. Nothing seems to happen. Perhaps her phone has packed it in.

The Spirit can simply dematerialize his orbs, but it seems as if Photobomb has found a protected area. The pillars are close together and they're coated in something... the opposite of whatever Tony is sliding around on. The big guy actually seems to be winning that battle. He starts licking up whatever the substance is, finding a bit of purchase and pushing himself forward.

That's when a second wave of pain hits the spirit. It forces him nearly to knees. Between this odd sensation and his enthusiastic orb use, he can feel that he's going to switch back with Jackson soon. Tony, charging through the doorway at Susie and the other villains inside, also stops dead in his tracks, feeling an unfamiliar feeling. He tries to hold it all down and catch the witch.

Then, exactly ten seconds after Photobomb snapping that selfie, one of the unconscious citizens explodes. It's grisly and shocking, and Photobomb smiles. It's not the only bad news. Conrad Medvedev hurtles around the corner of the restaurant, arrowing straight for the reeling Black Hole and rearing back in a ferocious punch! Tony's able to get a sizzler up just on time, and deflect the hammerlike blow, but he's on the back foot.

Things only get worse. An emergency message from Amber blares out across MODS: "This is a systemwide alert. Big Wing is attempting to link up with Photobomb. They're gonna use her powers to kill everyone at the game in the Tesla Center!"

The villains keep coming. From behind, Spooge charges, leveling a shotgun at Orange Marauder and unloading. His shot wings her in the leg and she crumples to the ground. Photobomb goes for another selfie, denied in the nick of time by the Spirit, though he can feel himself fading. Spooge stalks forward, lining up a second shot before...

Out of nowhere, Silent Spring materializes, tripping the villain. He staggers and falls, dropping the gun as his hands shoot out instinctively to protect his face. April dives for the firearm, grabs it, and comes out of a roll, pointing it his face. "Not another move."

Conrad swings again at Tony, and the two big guys brawl. Tony's not at his best. His cast-iron stomach is uncharacteristically queasy and it's distracting and worrying. Clara jumps in, charging out of the restaurant, and swings at him. Tony smacks into the wall, taking a bite out of it and spitting the chunks of rubble in his opponents' faces. It barely slows them. This is it. He knows their powers! Things are about to get -

SMACK!!!

Clara folds like an accordion, propelled into a nearby pillar with inhuman force. Rolling Thunder, moving so fast that the momentary lack of friction doesn't faze her in the least, stops, turns, and accelerates towards Conrad and Tony. Using the momentary distraction, Tony bites down and flings the big brute away. Rolling Thunder powers right through him and he's thrown away like a ragdoll. She doesn't get it much better, hitting a piece of his spat-out rubble from earlier, her wheelchair tips and she crashes spectacularly.

Rolling Thunder is out of the fight, along with the Narcoleptic from earlier. Orange Marauder might as well be. Tony's on his last legs, as is the Fighting Spirit.

The villains aren't in any better shape. Green Freedom and both Knuckle Twins are unconscious. Spooge is being held at gunpoint. Susie Biscuits is virtually useless, especially with The Amazing Black Hole present, but there's still Photobomb. Photobomb and...Silent Spring? Is she visible? Is she not? Somebody is going to have to get up in Photobomb's face and mess her up and they'll have to do it before Big Wing reaches her. What happened to Team A? Why haven't they stopped him? Can they?

April currently has Spooge held down at gunpoint, she would never shot at him but she is somewhat good at pretending she would. She knows she is the best option to take on Photobomb, who is a very high treat, so she has to do something.

She shouts:
"ORANGE MARAUDER, PURPLE GUY, I NEED ANY OF YOU TO MAKE SURE THIS MAN CAN'T MOVE FROM HERE"

Meanwhile she searches him to get the most ammo she can, while always pointing the shotgun at his face of course. After that and making sure Spooge can't really move she moves out of his range into somewhere safe, THEN loads the bullets into the shotgun (it shouldn't be hard)
Then she puts the weapon under her clothing to make sure it turns invisible with her.

The plan then is to sneak (not invisible, that would take forever and be hard to pull off) towards the restaurant until reaching the substance thing. make sure its still frictionless before making a run start to make a fast slide towards the restaurant, turning invisible during the slide. Prepare for the end of the slide and quickly hide. Then i will sneak into and enter the building, keep an eye on Susie so she doesn't get me from behind or anything. What i need to do is to get to Photobomb. If i see her pulling the phone for a selfie with me stop moving immediately, the plan is to shot at the phone, preferably from the side so i don't kill her (i really don't want to even harm her tbh) and all the surprise i can get the better.
Just try to not do something too risky.

Well, fuck the spirit thought.Only around half a minute until Jackson wakes up, and I need to do something.Turning to Spooge, the spirit slowly glided over to him. He shouldn’t try anything stupid, at least he thought. Thinking, the spirit thought of something. May not work, but it may as well be the only thing he can do.

Facing Spooge, the spirit punched him straight in his face before he could react, knocking him out. Grabbing his unconscious body, the spirit got in position, and hurled it at Photobomb with all his might. Thankfully, he didn’t feel exhaustion from it.

Readying himself, the spirit tensed up ... and lunged as far as he could at Photobomb , which generally meant very, very far. Even when in pain, the spirit was still plenty versatile.

Heading straight for Photobomb, he knew he had around 9 seconds left before he went back. Despite that, he was very, very close to Photobomb. Even if she got a photo of him, negative effects/damage wouldn’t transfer back to Jackson, so she would have to snap another selfie.

God, please make this work.

fuck......oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck....what is going on...what is this feeling...is this what it's like ... to have a stomachache? To vomit? Ohh boy *slightly crying* stay strong Tony. You can do this

He hides behind a building while watching the spirit lunge at photobomb. With photobomb looking elsewhere, Black Hole finds a nearby smashed car and bites into the aluminum hood. With dread, he swallows. He begins to run at photobomb until he falls about 8 feet short. He stops, and then feels something he had never felt before behind the building

He then positions himself slightly angled to not hit the spirit, and points his head within range of the front of Photobomb's camera, where she cannot take a selfie, especially if she has to worry about the spirit as well. And then, all hell breaks loose.

With a loud cough and gag, vomit comes flying out of Black Hole's mouth in the form of a high pressure stream. Pieces of chewed up biscuit is mixed with aluminum shards, with Black Hole's eyes growing wider and wider. what is going on with my body?

*In the dying moments that the vomit misses and Black Hole gets spotted, throw the fork weapon close to Jackson in the last few seconds*

ain't no way this pouch is as durable as this stupid bubble Force thinks as she begins to slam the bubble into the sides of the pouch. preferably in the direction of the pelican so he gets hit too
