Champions' Combat League

Hey it's Archangel. I'm using mod powers to edit this directly because I dont want to have to make a new post. Look at me. I am de captain now.

Basically, though this event is open to anybody, spots are limited to 10 and preference will be given to previous champions (champs), runners up, completely new designs, and then existing designs, in that order.

Details

1. CC League will have an entry draw of ten bots. One weight class only: Featherweight (30 lbs). Unless I get some help like with FF League (thanks, Sio), I'm doing all of the writing myself so, no, it's not going to expand. I don't wanna manage a large event.
2. Double Elimination format
3. We'll be using the Dirty Dozen rules because I wanna see if the meta has actually chilled or not. There are opportunities in that set but also pitfalls. Let's see how well you can resist them.
4. The usual stuff about deadlines (Saturday midnights EST), RP word limits (400), and reading or referencing your opponent's strategy post (don't do it!). As for FFs and stuff, shit's due by midnight (actually 11:59 PM EST), on FRIDAY. I want extra writing time.
5. The entry deadline is... let's say 1:00 PM EST, Saturday May 19 and your entry is only considered complete once your bot and stats are in. No reserving. If we have too many entries, priority will be given in order of champs > runners-up > new designs > existing designs. Priority tiebreaks will be order of signup.
6. Fuck rotating arenas Razor's Edge always.

Scoring System

Usual Scoring system
  • Damage: 5 points - how much damage is dealt to the opposing bot as a direct and intentional result of your actions.
  • Aggression: 5 points - the extent to which you are taking an active role in the match and initiating attacks. This does not necessarily mean rabid aggression for its own sake. Effectiveness matters.
  • Control: 5 points - the degree to which you dictate the flow of the match and are able to impose your gameplan on your opponent.

Additionally, this event will score matches by victor and by 'set'. The victor will receive two points in the overall standings for their victory and each bot will receive one point in the event of a tie. However, both bots (regardless of win, tie, or loss) will also score a point for each 'set' won. Basically, each 'set' represents one judging criterion (damage, aggression, control). A category won gives you one extra point. A category tied gives you 0.5 extra points. In the event of a knockout, all sets will be considered to have been won by the victor.
  • Win: 2 points
  • Tie: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points
  • Set Win: 1 point
  • Set Tie: 0.5 points
  • Set Loss: 0 points
Therefore, the maximum number of points that a bot can score in a single match is five. In the event of an FF (forfeit), the bot that showed up will also score five points. The loser will score zero. In the event of a winning bot losing two out of three sets (i.e. a spinner dominating on damage but narrowly losing aggression and control) it would emerge from the match with 3 points (2 for the overall victory and one for winning the damage set) while its opponent would take 2 (for control and aggression).

Bracket

At this point, the bracket doesn't exist yet. You can find FF League's as a sample here on Challonge. One will be made for CC League once entries come in and, it'll be updated as the tournament progresses.

Good luck, champs

Apeirogon II SS
Image
It's the ROBOT4 LW Champion Apeirogon II but scaled down to FW and it has mechanums for good measure.
Stats:
  • Speed: 6
  • Traction: 5
  • Torque: 1
  • Weapon: 12 (1 armor bonus point taken for arm)
  • Armor: 6
Image
The arm where the spinner is mounted is pneumatic, it acts like a hammer instead of a lifter.
Wedgelets are hinged, but with limited range so the bot doesn't get stuck on top of them.
The rear wheels come out of the back a bit cuz arc meta.
Wheel guards are made out of plastic and break into pieces when damaged instead of bending, they serve no function apart from protection so them being taken out doesn't cause problems.
Can self right with arm thingy, may drive a bit while inverted.
Anti-spinner config
Image
  • Weapon: 10 (1 armor bonus point taken for arm)
  • Armor: 8 (+2 to plow)
Plow is on the exact same hinges as the wedgelets from main config.
The spinner does not hit the plow obviously.

Anti-Noah config
Image
  • Weapon: 10 (7 gun / 7 ammo)
  • Armor: 8 (+2 to plow)
Total ammo of 16 shots.
Max fire rate of 250 RPM.
I hope you get the plan.

Hello, meet...
Sundancer 2

Sundancer 2 by Floating Castle Robotics on Sketchfab

The 2018 REDDIT runner up is back for another title shot with its trademark hammer and mecanum wheels. The front wedge is hinged, as are the removable teeth.

Stats: 5/4/1/12/8

There's also a flipper configuration:

Here we go again

The Diablo bot has gone through many iterations, slight body tweaks, and so on and so forth. But while it was a solid bot, and a champion at that, it was always a bit of a crude design. Hopefully this changes things a bit.

-We're out of the Genesis stage now-

(In the case that I am unable to post a full model, this is what the ABR plow attachment would look like
Image

note: the bottom of the bot should be completely flush. Had some issues with sketchfab so please ignore the purple texture going through it. I got carpal tunnel making this :V

2WD and armed with a lifter or a unique flamp weapon depending on the fight. The flipper is powered by electricity and run through a gear mechanism. It will flip upwards with a lot of force and will lock in the open position. Another button press unlocks the flipper and slowly closes it to clamp. Has a choice between a front wedge or an old school ABR plow (will add this later)

The forks on both wedges and the dustpan are independently removable. There are also removable white teeth on the underside of the lifter.

NON-multibot (where it enters the arena without No Steppy)
Speed: 3

Weapon: 22 (15 gun, 15 ammo), 32 bullets total

The gun has a big pneumatic engine nearby it that can either rapid-fire PEWPEWPEW BRRRRT the bullets all at once or a couple at a time. It's invertible but the gun's feeding mechanism (read: a ramp) won't really work upside down. Basically, it does this.

No Steppy is both invertible and can self right. It's really just Phat Slug with less stat points, though.

Multibot weight distribution is 50/50. The bullets make up a lot of the main bot's weight + some weight's taken from the insides and stuff, to the point where the chassis wobbles and sways when driving. I'm sure it'll be fine. :^)

STATS:
Speed: 7
Traction: 7
Torque: 2
Weapon: 4 (Launch config), 3 (Spirit Edge and Spirit Smash configs)
Armor: 10 (+1 top plate) in Launch Config, 11 (+2 front wedge) in Spirit Edge and Spirit Smash configs

yeah im still making silly fandombots, try and stop me

The CBC4 Featherweight Champion returns, now in a new, upgraded version. The major changes include a 4WD chassis, improved wedge interchangeability, and the flipper is now rear-hinged and powered by hydraulics instead of a gas spring! This new weapon can toss opponents about 4-1/2 to 5 feet in the air!

Ori is invertible, and can drive around at full speed upside-down while the hydraulic accumulator recharges and/or to get better positioning before self-righting. The back lower corner of the chassis is beveled, allowing it to be tilted backwards over 45 degrees without high-centering. The flipper is easily capable of delivering a big enough kick to toss the bot back onto its wheels, even without a full accumulator charge.
How the Weapon Works
The flipper is now rear-hinged, which is more durable than a 4-bar linkage, but has a large stroke angle of about 55 degrees, and the tip of the spatula rises about a foot. The flipper is driven by a 1-3/4" bore, 1-1/4" stroke custom-made hydraulic cylinder, fired at up to 2500 psi. The maximum cylinder force of about 6,000 lbs is reduced to around 600 lbs at the tip of the spatula - this very high leverage also means the tip of the flipper moves almost ten times faster than the piston, which is great for a hydraulic system because the slower the piston can move the more efficient it is.

The flip is powered by a tiny piston-type accumulator which stores about 3 cubic inches of oil (all the ram needs) with a "dead" volume of about 7 ci of high-pressure nitrogen when fully charged. This type of accumulator can exert a significant pressure even at the end of the stroke, but once the internal piston is fully extended the compressed gas physically can't move it any further and the pressure inside the hydraulic lines can drop to near zero, which has a big safety benefit. The brushless-driven hydraulic pump is used to charge the accumulator, as well as to retract the cylinder after a flip. Ori's flipper can be fully retracted in about a second, at which point the pump switches to recharging the accumulator over the next 3-4 seconds. This is a big improvement over the old gas spring system, which is stuck with the arm extended the entire time that the spring is being "recharged," and avoids the finnicky trigger system as well.

The cylinder is double-acting, but retraction is also assisted by bungees mounted on the arm. The flipper uses a "semi-attached ram" design similar to my other bot, Richter: the cylinder itself is only connected to a lightweight aluminum "pusher bracket" which sits on the same hinge pin as the main arm, and pushes against it during the power stroke - and the retraction bungees can push the arm down against the pusher plate and help retract the cylinder. However, the arm CANNOT pull on the cylinder. It is restrained by a combination of lower-force retraction bungees and strong nylon straps that only become taut at the end of the stroke. This makes the ram much easier to design because it does not have to withstand bringing the momentum of the entire fast-moving flipper arm to a stop at the end of the stroke, or if the arm is uppercut by a vertical spinner. If the flipper is fired without a full charge in the accumulator then the piston might slow down and the arm coast up to its full extension ahead of it.
CONFIGS:

Launch Config: Has the lightest of the front wedges and no special forks, but the flipper tip and wedgelets are all independently hinged. The weight freed up allows upgrading the 1/8" aluminum top cover to 4mm titanium for added protection against hammers and saws. The flipper is also run at maximum pressure in this config.

Spirit Edge Config: This configuration uses sturdy hinged wedgelets, as well as long hardened steel forks that are on their own independent hinges. Meant for fights against vertical spinners, but can also be used for other matchups where the extra wedging ability of the forks is needed. The spatula can be removed from the flipper in this config.

Spirit Smash Config: In this config the hinged wedgelets are replaced by a shock-mounted steel plow - it's static but scrapes very close to the ground and will still get under the ground clearance of non-wedge surfaces. A shortened flipper arm is used so that the two sides of the plow can be jointed together to strengthen its structure and prevent sideswiping of the arm. It needs to get the opponent a bit further up the wedge, but is otherwise fully capable of flipping opponents. Instead of a spatula an additional 1/8" AR500 plate, the same thickness as the wedge, is bolted onto the front of the flipper arm to further reinforce it. The top "ears" of the plow are a full 1/2" taller than the wheels to prevent them getting sniped by spinners skipping up it. The bot's still technically invertable but only the rear wheels touch the ground, resulting in much lower traction. However, it can still self-right if it gets flipped.

Ignore the config on the 4-bar raised photo, I'm too lazy to redo that shot with one of the 3 I'm using. Forks, ABR, or flat wedge (first 3) are the usable configs. yes the 4-bar is weirdly proportioned, no I don't feel like fixing it.

Perennial runner-up (ROBOTS 3 MW Silver Medal, ARC S1 Silver Medal) entering with:

ZINC PEST!
Zinc Pest
ImageDefault configuration. Other config pics incoming.
Default and Extended Forks Statline:-
Speed: 9 | Traction: 8 | Torque: 2 | Weapon: 2 (1/1/1/1 four flippers) | Armour: 9

Meme-Sized Plough Statline:-
Speed: 9 | Traction: 8 | Torque: 2 | Weapon: 0 | Armour: 11 (+2 Wedge)

Zinc Pest is a featherweight iteration of ARC S1 runner-up Verdigris, and has all the same configs as that - short forks, long forks, and a great big wedge. Getting the complicated pneumatic system to work in a featherweight form factor was no mean feat, and the team had many sleepless nights figuring out how to scale down the parts for this blatant recolour entirely new and legally distinct robot. Like her heavyweight big sister, Zinc Pest is designed to be very good at chain flips and strafing, with enough armour to tank the hits from control spinners and hammers while also having a big wedge option to deal with horizontal deathspinners. It's a Speed Wedge That Does Something, so it should do well on judges' decisions even if it lacks outright KO power against most opponents. Here's hoping, anyway. =]
TEAM WORST SWORDSMAN

Active Roster:-

LW: TRILOBITE! (1-0) (Lifetime: 3-4)

Cherry Bomb Classic 4
MW: DRAGONFIST (6-1) (Lifetime: 15-9)
HW: TABOR MARK 4 (4-3) (Lifetime: 12-14)

Benjiro: The Babbling Buvak

- Team Questionable Strategies
- A 4 Tracked Lifter/Grabber with a horizontal on the grabber
- It has 2 wedges on the front protecting the side tracks and a wedge tail in the back for horizontals.
- It’s kind of like an amalgamation of Overhaul and Ghost Raptor
- Probably the most well rounded of all the bots i’ve created
- Also 3 different little additions being the option of having a middle wedge thing, long forks, and a little wedge on the lifter
- It’s got 6 different Horizontal configs (but I can legally only use 3)
  • トゥームストーンクローン (To~ūmusutōnkurōn) blocky bar kinda like Tombstone
The Gentleman, curved bar kinda resembles a bow tie
    Picket Fence, blades like Bloodsport
Record Player, filled disc with 2 teeth (not shaped like Pac-man it just has a yellow spindle and is circular)
Air Quotes, which is a one power spinner that’s MADE OUT OF AIR
    Goose, dual bar spinners
-Regular (Picket Fence and To~ūmusutōnkurōn)
Speed: 6
Traction: 4 (+ because Tracks)
Torque: 1
Damage: 11 (1 for lifter, 9 for spinner, 1 for Weapon arm)
Armor: 7
-Air Bender (Air Quotes)
Speed: 6
Traction: 4 (+ because Tracks)
Torque: 1
Damage:10 (1 for Air Quotes Spinner, 1 for lifter, 9 for lifter arm)
Armor: 7 (+1 for the lifter arm)
-Anti-Horizontal (Picket Fence and To~ūmusutōnkurōn)
Speed: 6
Traction: 4 (+ because Tracks)
Torque: 1
Damage:10 (1 for lifter, 9 for spinner)
Armor: 7 (+1 for lifting wedges)

Not going to get in, but I'll apply for fun.
