The population of those who don't affiliate with either party is growing, and personalities are mattering. The problem is, between these two, you can't find any witnesses to vouch for their character because neither one has any. So it reverts back to partisan.
Young voters are more likely to be independents, but that shouldn't be mistaken for more of them being moderates. The overton window is very different in my generation. We're sick of both parties and want real change. The kinds of change we want are only moderate in the global sense.

TotallyNotSatan

I'd rather the country realizes "Oh shit, we need to actually elect good candidates" and wake up rather than be the same for the next election cycles.
Accelerationism has never worked. And you can forget about having elections if Trump wins. The Republicans have blocked all of Obama's federal court nominations. There are 78 seats open currently (including Scalia's seat). The next time they win the presidency they will consolidate those seats and you'll see a tidal wave of hardcore right wing justices unlike anything that's happened in this country before. They're counting on gullible, angry voters like yourself allowing their guy to win, so they can usher in a new age. There is no "trying again in 4-8 years" if Clinton loses in November.

You need to understand the way elections work in this country, and how fragile our ability to vote actually is. (By the way, the Republicans have been trying to chip away at one-man-one-vote for the past two years. There was a court case where they tried to change districts to reflect registered voters instead of citizens, which would've made gerrymandering vastly more powerful... now imagine if they'd had more sympathetic justices for that case! Well, actually you don't need to imagine. You can vote for Trump and find out for yourself!).
Then I'll support Green or Libertarian. But I can't in good conscience vote Clinton.

But I can't in good conscience vote Clinton.
I know where you're coming from. And I'm not exactly a fan of the Clintons, or what the DLC has perverted the democratic party into. I am absolutely disgusted that the party has given us this nominee after we literally rejected her in 2008 because she voted for the Patriot Act and the War in Iraq. I'm disgusted that she suckered the black community into supporting her over a literal civil rights activist who marched with MLK and campaigned for Jesse Jackson.

BUT...

I absolutely despise Trump with every fiber of my being, and I'm terrified of what kind of idiocracy he'd make this country look like on an international stage. I think under different circumstances, where democrats had control of the Senate/House, and if my state weren't currently being destroyed by a tea party government that we have no way to get rid of without help from the federal courts, and if the republican nominee were someone less dangerous, I'd be tempted to let Clinton lose. Under those conditions maybe so, but to me it looks like we're not in a situation where we can afford to.

If it's Trump or Kasich, I'm not supporting Clinton.

BTW, now there are reports of people being unregistered in Indiana. Are you fucking kidding me. 13 states so far where there has been some widespread form of voter issues(MS/AL/GA/WA/AZ/NY/CT/MA/PA/OH/IN/IL/IA, of which IA/IL/MA/CT/AZ would have had a different winner had there been no issues.)

Neck and neck in Indiana. Clinton took an early lead but Sanders has recovered.
EDIT 1: Sanders winning, 53-47. Woo!

And the final nail is in the coffin. Kasich is expected to suspend his campaign shortly. Fuck.

Good news for Sanders, though. With Trump securing the nomination, more Independents and Republicans will vote for Sanders in open primaries because the votes don't matter anymore if they go Republican.

Did not know that. Good to know. If Bernie could still wrangle the Democratic nomination, Hairpiece burning down the establishment would be terrific. But because Bernie likely won't, it's a serious concern. Both of the other two candidates have extremely strong anti-them sentiments and camps with those feelings. Some people are in both. Because of that, it's just too scary a possibility that the Idiot could ride the train of anti-her sentiment and grab the White House.

Some of us don't have backup countries in case this one gets fucked.

I can understand a Marylander not voting for Clinton. Maryland is pretty much a state run into the ground by neoliberal Clinton-esque democrats with a one party grip on government thanks to the same level of gerrymandering that republicans in NC have.

ya'll can always gay marry me for free healthcare, although idk, do you want to move to holland, and get a facefull of geert wilders, or david camertron, or the extreme neoliberal germany merkal state, or reactionary france where the 'socialist' leader moved further to the right of cameron.

maryland... kind of a weird state, business taxes are actually pretty anti-liberal (although next door delaware probably makes it very tolerable for northrop grumman and all the other aerospace industry here) and social services/infrastructure is pretty good (outside of baltimore and at its best on the 95 dc-baltimore corridor). you get people like jamie raskin, who is a Good progressive, winning in the most neolib district over chris matthews wife (thank fuck), but then you get van hollen and M'OM.

md dems are awful as hell (look at hte baltimore mayor race lol. tehy should all be killed, not a single halfway decent person ran, or will ever run, for baltimore mayor) but a lot of that is city politics which is almost a billion times worse than state level politics. frankly as far as state dnc parties go, you could, depressingly and disgustingly do worse than maryland lol

I see clinton as another thatcher who's able to hide her insanely regressive policies by using a plethora of identity politics. its like the nc bathroom bill, no one is talking about about the fact that part of the bill banned any district from increasing their minimum wage beyond the state sanctioned minimum wage. a classic clinton move, were she to be a state politician, would be to overhaul the bill to remove the bathroom stuff, and leave the min wage stuff in, and call it a victory.

Which is still awful, but... it's awfulness within reasonable bounds. I'm willing to give her some faith in nominating federal court justices because Bill Clinton actually did a decent job with that. We can challenge her in the primary again in 4 years if she gets us into another war or passes a TPP-esque draconian corporate power grab law. And if Dems are in a better position in Congress, maybe let her lose.

All of this could change of course. We'll see how far she shifts right in the general, and if Trump outflanks her on the left on enough things, and reevaluate things by November I guess.
