Speak freely but don't be stupid about it or you'll find yourself on the last train to Clarksville, ya dumbass.

Quick Question-Who was Chuck and does anyone remember his bot's names? Or any of the other robot names in the tourney? (for the archived link further up)

I think Chuck was theorangehamster but he was a little before my time so I'm not too sure. Chris or Philip would probably know.

Frankly exposed wheels were never a huge deal, either irl or in CFL. IRL really depends on the robot, the wheels, and the way they're attached. Overkill never had a wheelsectomy, while the Matador faced one of the most infamous ones against MOE. In CFL the armor stat determines the armor of the wheels and so something with 9 or so armor shouldn't be too afraid of having exposed wheels against a spinner, while someone with 4-5 may be a little more worried.

Having downloaded it myself, I must say it's truly fascinating to just look through all these old designs, and see how far they've all come since the early days.

I think it might have been something like the second or third version. It didn't have the wheelguards right on the sides, but there were still bits between the wheels, sort of. It's kinda tricky to explain without an image
