Yes, I do in fact listen to progressive a lot. That post was pretty much a joke because Genesis.
Phill Collins' Genesis or Peter Gabriel's Genesis? :td:
Genesis are the 70's/80's version of the Drifters: one incarnation/era is the reason you respect the group and acknowledge their accomplishments; the other incarnation/era is the reason you've actually heard of the group.
And I think you're overhyping prog. I don't think it's so much music for the intellectual, thoughtful as it is music for the pretentious, dismissive. Don't get me wrong, I like Pink Floyd, and even a bit of Jethro Tull. I'll even admit Rush is truly deserving though I don't like Geddy Lee's shrieking. But it's no skin off my nose if Yes or King Crimson never make it.
The prog bands that are a big yes from me for getting inducted are: Rush, Jethro Tull, the Moody Blues
I'll acquiesce to Yes, King Crimson, Procol Harum (progenitors of it along the Moody Blues) and maybe even Emerson, Lake, And Palmer, but I can't see too many beyond that being all that deserving.
Still, it was a huge segment of the music scene of the '70s, and to ignore it is pretty lame. But then again, disco has minimal representation too, as does new-wave and hip-hop (and let's not get into the argument that rap isn't a form of rock'n'roll. It is. But just like everything else, it evolved into something very different from what it used to be).

I just really like the transitioning. It can go from a slow, mellow harmony to Fast hectic type rock without you even noticing.
OK that made me sound ignorant but you get the picture

Well, Josh, I'm predicting good things for the Spinners, but my accuracy isn't always *ahem* pinpoint. Still, if you want to read my thoughts on the ballot, I've got a blog out for it.

The latest entry are my actual predictions.

Welp, 4 years later and I'm still waiting on The Spinners. I'm still not convinced they'll be getting in though.
Then I see comments like this, and start to understand why.

Quote:

As for the Spinners, I think we have run the course of Motown getting inducted. Once you get past the pioneers of the sound, everyone else is pretty much cookie cutter and I don't consider the Spinners to be pioneers.
I mean yeah they started there, but really didn't do a whole lot of notoriety there. However they were pretty big in the Philly Soul scene while with Atlantic and Philly Soul is um, well it's not Motown but I guess this guy doesn't know or care. Inducting The Spinners isn't really filling the same slot as groups like The Four Tops or The Temptations and certainly not The Drifters. If you have people thinking along the lines of "A black singing group? Must be another one of those Motown acts. Eh we've got enough of them", then I'm not going to keep holding my breath. >__>
