X is this generation's Y

Get with the beats, the riffs, the harmony, or if you wanna go to hell, Phil Collins.

Basically this is a thread of people's opinions on what are the modern music equivalents of older stuff. The connections can be anything as long as they make sense, whether it be sound, ability, potential, lyrics, messages, whatever. I'll start off with my own, feel free to debate me or add your own.

Green Day is this generation's The Beatles

My Chemical Romance is this generation's Queen

Muse is this generation's Pink Floyd

AFI is this generation's The Cure

Red Hot Chile Peppers is this generation's Rolling Stones

Jack White (white stripes, raconteurs) is this generation's Bob Dylan

Maybe the old bands are this generation's versions of themselves because people still listen to them, and new bands try to be something else?

Whatever the case, Radiohead are undeniably this generation's Beatles, like them or hate them.

The Mars Volta are the next Led Zeppelin

I would say Beck is the next Bod Dylan

The Strokes... the Velvet Underground?

I could see the strokes/velvet underground thing.

And it's funny you compare the mars volta to led zepplin, cause I love TMV but absolutely cannot stand LZ

I considered Yes and King Crimson for a long time before deciding at Led Zep. They have a similar sound, and people tend to either love them or hate them.

A very neat idea, lemme try...

For me, it's more about comparing how a band sounds, whether it sounds, grungy, soft, sweet, heavy, etc. But also I guess deals with the band's general theme and tone.

Green Day is this generation's Sex Pistols...

Avenged Sevenfold is this generation's Metallica...

Chris Brown is this generation's Michael Jackson...

Shinedown is this generation's Led Zeppelin...

Slipknot is this generation's Slayer....

I guess that's all for now.

Pussy Cat Dolls are this generation's Spice Girls (or Ronnettes, if Spice Girls isn't old enough for you)

Michael Bolton is this generation's Pat Boone.

Carrie Underwood is this generation's Skeeter Davis

Jewel is this generation's either Joni Mitchell or Bonnie Raitt

Sarah McLachlan is this generation's Timi Yuro

Hanson is this generation's Ohio Express

No Doubt is this generation's Blondie

So Gwen Stefani is this generation's Debbie Harry

Thus making Beyonce this generation's Diana Ross

Weird Al Yankovic is this generation's Dickie Goodman

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

Surprisingly no. I don't hate Beyonce. But I do see the parallels. Lead singer of a hot female trio until her own ego gets in the way and she goes solo, leaving her groupmates to fend for themselves, pretty much. The chief differences between the two are Beyonce has yet to fuck her record label's owner, and I actually like Beyonce's voice. Diana's voice is just plain irritating.

I dissagree with almost every one of the comparisons so far. Probably because the bands/artists mentioned are mainstream and I hate mainstream music.

lol, saw the title of this thread on the "threads currently being viewed" list, blatantly assumed the title was about Pokemon, to then see the last post was made many years before X and Y were even released

interesting thread, now we need a Green Day/Red Hot Chile Peppers rivalry

Let me guess, you came here to say that Exploded Drawing by Polvo is this generation's Tago Mago?

Much like MadBull, I mistook the title as something to do with Pok
