ROBOTS Power Rankings

Featherweight

Overall, this is actually a really weak-looking division full of flawed or poorly statted robots. Ripe for the picking. Really, everything from about 3-14 is pretty much interchangeable. Nothing really stands out as especially good or bad here.

1. Talons Out!: Ya, it's arrogant ranking my own bot #1, but I don't see much that'll beat it, though the torque's a bit low, I guess.

2. Guleh: yep, a bot with no stats is #2. Decent design, though its ability to score corner damage won't be great without a 2WD wedge. Stats will prolly be good.

3. Noothgrush: will hit like a truck and be goddamned unkillable... and without a lot of fast and well-controlled robots here, it'll actually get to spin up.

4. Howler II: I want to find reasons that this is crap, but 16 weapon is 16 weapon, it wins blade-to-blade against most spinners, and maybe 1/3 of the field can actually box rush it.

5. Mudcrab: An interesting and thoughtful take on the control spinner. It should beat most other weapon-based designs and lose to bricks. Also, feeder wedges matter. In most fights, it'll effectively be dealing 11 damage instead of 9 because of them.

6. Pennywise the Dancing Clown: Is that point for rotation really necessary? Does it adjust during the fight? Not bad, but not great.

7. Quarter to Nine: the multiple configs is a good idea, but it's too slow and will struggle against bricks. Fortunately, there aren't many here.

8. Did Someone Say Chimichanga?: decent ring spinner with decent stats that will do decently

9. The Surgeon: honestly pretty solid drum, but could use some feeder wedges.

10. Firebird: A classic Alex-bot by not-Alex. I don't see any reason why it should do better, though. Still too slow.

11. Salamandra: Sorry, Dylan, but this thing just isn't gonna work under these rules. Then again, this division is crap, so maybe.

12. Chewer: exists in a statistical grey zone. In the right group, it could surprise again. In the wrong one, it'll crash out early.

13. Hope Strikes Eternal: summarily unremarkable, with too low of a plow, though the mecanums are cool.

14. Herzeleid: This would be top 5 as a really solid, bog-standard 2WD drum with feeder wedges if it was able to actually control itself.

15. The Devil Inside: the speed's nice, but way too much is being sacrificed in terms of control, armour, and weapon.

Lightweight

This division has some really strong designs and some others that could pull off some surprises. There are a few derps at the bottom, but overall, this should be competitive despite the presence of clear favourites.

1. Elrathia: Enough frontal armour to tank spinners, the drivetrain to stay facing opponents, and a death-hammer, Odds-on favourite here.

2. Slither: fast, tough, and wedgey.

3. Tidal Wave II: Damned nice invertible drum bot with 2WD feeder wedges and good stats.

4. Reinhardt: Elrathia-lite should do well, since nothing here has much top armour and the spinners won't be able to flank it.

5. Backstab 2.5: Solid brick with a dumb swappable drivetrain will do solid brick things.

6. Aerial Annihilation: solid, well-statted classic British power flipper

7. Spike: hard-hitting ring spinner will win head-to-head against most other spinners and can worry some bricks.

8. Sleipnir: still with a ridiculous armour bonus and weak invertibility.

9. Disgruntled Ceiling Fan: standard 360 spinner. Won't suck, and won't amaze.

10. Arcade Queen: solid stats, but iffy wedges and suspect self-righting.

11. Hoarfrost II: would be stupidly good if it wasn't an unintentional vertical thwack. Being replaced soon.

12. Toxtant: it's a crusher with no control. 'Nuff said.

13. Swamp Gator: nice stats, but there are so many things wrong with the design that I don't even know where to begin.

14. To Fry: will get tanked by wedges and annihilated by other spinners with its weak armour, poor control, narrow attack zone and lack of feeder wedges.

15. Nightshade: won't be able to move.

ROBOTS Power Rankings

1. Talons Out! - When you have something that can tank spinners and control most other designs with a clamp, you're going the distance. Only 2. is going to give this bot real trouble.

2. Howler II - Still has the same problems as last time. But these flaws are made up by the sheer power and body coverage of the weapon

3. Noothgrush - Yep. The whole Mantella family makes the top 3. I'm a bit worried about what will happen if an undercutter gets ahold of those bristles, but it has to dodge a colorful spinny thing of death and destruction while doing so

4. Guleh - As long as Gabe doesn't derp on the stats, it's a solid drumbot. Also has some interesting weapon teeth.

5. Mudcrab - How does one control spinner? Probably something like this. Should give bricks a hard time, though it wouldn't be surprising if it lost out in terms of drivetrain. Spinners with exposed wheels, beware

6. Pennywise The Dancing Clown - In all of the fights I've seen It, that rotating arm has never been used. That said, it's solid, and unlike most spinners, it has options

7. Chewer - Auto lose to any bricks with a good drivetrain, but auto win against all spinners not named Mudcrab. Probably another way to make a decent control spinner.

8. Did Someone Say Chimichanga? - No hammers here, which is usually a big problem for ring spinners. Could have some trouble against the bricks, but should do "meh" overall

9. The Surgeon - feeder wedges would be nice, and the ground clearance in the back is a bit wonky, but should do pretty well

10. Salamandra - Good driver, good design, not so good stats. But hey, once a design gets nerfed, it's bound to have stat troubles? It's got a good wedge if all else fails

11. Hope Strikes Eternal - Ok...On one hand, it's a strafing flipper with a decent wedge. On the other, it can get high ended, has questionable self righting, and is corner-licious with lower armor for spinners. That worries me quite a bit.

12. Quarter To Nine - Crushers are seen as obsolete by the writers. And I'm not sure how it's supposed to lift if the wedge is fixed to the body.

13. Firebird - Just won't have as much luck this time. It's got a lot of precision weapons. Without a decent drivetrain to back it up, I don't see it being a huge factor.

14 Herzeleid - It's going to have trouble with invertibility, kudos to that flag. And despite having those flat surfaces on the sides, those wedge setups look tasty for fellow spinners

15. The Devil Inside - It's a neat idea, but just not for this group. It'll have difficulty self righting, and looks easy to strand

Probably because the most of the small sample of fights it was in involved in were it getting demolished in one hit by more obnoxious death spinners. :v:

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

ROBOTS Power Rankings

FW

The Favourites

Talons Out! - Being the slightly faster of top-flight bricks in a field of mostly spinners is awesome.
Tenebris - Being the slightly slower of two top-flight bricks in a field of spinners is still pretty damned good.
Howler II - It wins weapon-to-weapon against the other spinners and can overwhelm most of the tougher armoured robots.
Guleh - This is just a good drum with feeder wedges.

The Contenders

Noothgrush - applying the shuffler bonus to a melty like a boss. This would suffer if there was much that could box rush it.
Chewer - This has the speed to take advantage of all of the weak armour here.
Quarter to Nine - with a dearth of fast bots, this crusher/clamper could actually thrive.
Hot Japaleno - terribly designed, with a static wedge, but it's a brick in a field of spinners.

The Field

Mudcrab - Chewer-lite
Firebird - It'll probably struggle less to keep up this time and could be primed for a run.
The Surgeon - Needs feeder wedges
Salamandra - 2 chassis armour, but, you know, there's not much that can take advantage of that here.

The Longshots

Pennywise the Dancing Clown - This is a 'same old' kind of effort from Josh and it doesn't really stand out in a field full of spinners.
Did Someone Say Chimichanga? - Loses a lot of weapon-to-weapon fights, but it's invertible, at least.
Herzeleid - This would be top eight with some better stats.
The Devil Inside - I'm sorry, but I have no faith in Pat's RPs or renders at this point.

MW

The Favourites

Corporate Interests - Fast, tough, and not reliant on armour bonuses.
Safe Space - If it works, there's not much that can stop that kind of speed/armour/weapon combo.
Axtinguisher - The walkign death-hammer is officially a thing in this tournament.
Sarge - clever use of armour bonuses leaves this perfectly controlled brick really well protected.

The Contenders

Glitch - see above, but with weapons.
Lethal Carriageway - a fast, pushy brick with a decent lifter.
Vovoka - slightly wasteful armour points and corners, but solidly bricky and wedgey.
Black Dog - Fast and hard hitting: a lightning bruiser. Its armour is a bit worrying, though.

The Field

PnATO - This honestly feels like it should be higher. I'm just not sure about the wobble caused by that shuffling system.
Copperhead - An iffy design and stat approach, but when you hit that hard, you've always got a chance.
The 'No' Patrol - This would do great in a field with more spinners. Unfortunately, it'll get outdriven and tanked by the bricks here.
Neophyte Redglare - it's going to be really easy to angle into, and doesn't really optimize its weapon armour bonus.

The Longshots

Triple B - Another that feels like ti should be higher, but it's easily high-centered and full of corners.
Jaws - Awkward design, in-between stats, and sorely lacking in armour.
Point Blank II - 9 power on an axe isn't going to do it in a field where most robots are pretty well armoured.
Calvin - A lack of pushing power and self-righting will kill this thing.

I feel like The Devil Inside is severely underrated here. It's got enough of a drivetrain to keep a distance, and given the low armor on spinner wheels, Pat's unique idea might just work. Agree with the rankings otherwise

Since I'm the T.O. this time around, I should probably add in some sort of disclaimer about how none of this affects the tournament or something. so yeah. that. As for the usual disclaimer: these are but my opinions. I'm often wrong, and if you don't like where I've placed you, you're more than capable of proving me wrong. italics indicate dark horse picks, heavyweights will be edited in whenever GF93 makes up his mind (which had better be soon ;) )
