Custom Fantasy Wars?

Post by That Kode Guy » Thu Feb 13, 2014 11:40 am

I started this:
http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/threads ... s-series-1
back in 2010. I've bumped it again recently, since it's not finished yet, but I'm wondering who'd be interested in something like this on the ARC boards here?

I wouldn't change the format, since I'm inexperienced with the Battlebots format, so there'd be a 16-heat set-up with 8 robots, the exact same as Robot Wars Series 7. Each robot I would choose would be a heavyweight and from people who want to take part (if you have more than one heavyweight, that's awesome!) and randomly selected by me to take part in the tournament, along with Battlebots and Combots/RoboGames heavyweights as well. However, I can use a different arena instead of the Robot Wars one if that's preferred.

The catch? Predictions! That's right, this is first and foremost a predictions tournament. The format would be, thus:

--------
--------

Correctly guess one Round 1 robot that goes through to Round 2, you get 1 point
Two Round 1 robots in separate fights - 2 points
Two Round 1 robots in the same fight - 3 points
Three Round 1 robots... - 4 points
All Round 1 robots... - 5 points
----
One Round 2 robot that goes through to the Heat Final - 3 points
Both robots... - 5 points
----
Robot that wins a heat - 5 points
----
One robot that wins a semi-final in Round 1 - 5 points
Two... - 7 points
Three... - 9 points
All... - 10 points
----
One robot that moves on to the Grand Final - 8 points
Both... - 10 points
----
One robot that moves on to the Final - 10 points
Both... - 15 points
----
Robot who wins the Play-off - 15 points
----
Winner of the Series - 25 points

--------
--------

Keep in mind that this would be completely FOR FUN, and the result summaries are not meant to be taken as what will happen every time. One set of summaries (or two, depending on how I feel/if there's enough predictions) will be posted a day until the prediction tournament is over.

So who's up for it?

It wouldn't matter much. I don't need stats or descriptions or anything.

Sounds like fun. =) Are all the predictions sent in at once, or do we predict for the next round as we go?

Ah, OK. With our ARC Machines, I reckon it could be pretty fun! I say go for it.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

Indeed. Plus it'll be a good opportunity for me to test one of my improved HWs, so why not? :P

Well nobody's entering anything on their own merit. :P I randomly take HWs from people's teams to slot into the tournament, so :P

All my HWs have done at least reasonably well so far, so I don't mind who I have chosen to represent my team, here. Bulletproof Bomb and Terminal Velocity were good of course, but if it could be one of my newer ones, that'd be great.
