This should be in the Jukebox, but I'll leave it here because of why it's on this forum in the first place. "She's My Girl," huh? Not a big fan of their psychedelic stuff.

Unfortunately, I can't find two of my favorite Turtles' songs on YouTube. :( They were "You Don't Have To Walk In The Rain" and "Can I Get To Know You Better".

So here's one that's stylistically closer to those two songs:

Gotta love the brief cowbell solo on it.

It is quite odd, I guess. Even for the Beatles I was always more of a fan of their earlier, more pop centric songs. I mean, I did enjoy some of the more psychedelic hits, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure. I guess, for songs, I was always looking for more of a tune than anything else.

I'm the same way. "She's My Girl" is one I've gotten used to, but since I've never felt the need to do drugs, I can't relate to that song at all. If I remember correctly, "You Don't Have To Walk In The Rain" was also written by Ray Davies, of the Kinks, who is my all-time favorite songwriter.

Ever since the local Oldies station converted to a "Classic Rock" station, I don't get to hear songs like this anymore. I mean there is the one AM station, but the reception is dubious at best.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

same here, bro.

The Turtles are what we call "Previously Considered" for the Hall Of Fame, meaning they've never made the final ballot (and therefore are not in), but have been pitched to be on the ballot before, only to get edged out when editing it down to a final ballot.

I definitely feel the same way. Aside from occassional alcohol comsumption, I've never really been a drug consumer so perhaps Strawberry Fields or Dark Side of the Moon or Happy Together are made to sound differently under the influence but 'second sound' as it were of songs has never really appealed to me.

Yeah, that was their first hit, before they went drug crazy. Bob Dylan wrote that song, but when he saw the Turtles perform it, he asked them who wrote that song for him. He didn't remember that he had written that song originally!

The Turtles originally started doing protest rock (actually, they did surf-rock when they were originally known as the Crossfires, but I digress). But after seeing how songs were getting banned, and protest artists and their troubles, they changed directions to fun-time rock and roll. The first of those songs was "You Baby."

my music/audio ignorance rivals my movie ignorance, but i must say i have a really weird affection for 40-50s music, specifically vocals based music (ink blots, sinatra, crosby)

I'm a sucker for vocal harmonies. And my favorite crooner is Perry Como.

Btw, it's Ink Spots, not Blots.

Speaking of the Ink Spots; thanks to playing Fallout 3, I've got their song "I Don't Want to Set The World On Fire" stuck in my head.
