4WD, the rear wheels being omniwheels, the 4 wheels powered by 4 different motors. When turning, the rear wheels are stalled, meaning the center of the robots rotation is right between the front wheels. The fact the rear wheels are omniwheels mean they will cause minimum friction when turning. This will also mean the fact the rear axle track is narrower than the front axle track has no negative consequences. When inverted, the robot will rest on the 2 rear omniwheels and a 3rd (unpowered) omniwheel on top of the robot. At this point the robot effectively is driven by 2 omniwheels, which at that point shall participate in the robot's differential steering.

Actually I also came up with an idea for an omni-drive VS last weekend. Fairly different from yours though.

Will be revising some measurements for better invertibility, but yeah the idea is what it is.
Yeah a vertical spinner Nick. The 2 ... woks, are connected to each other through an inner axle, that is spun around by a belt between them, inside the (rigid) magenta cylinder between them so to speak.
