SPARKEYS NEW 2D BOT SHOWCASE

Are you going to showcase your ability to listen? Because listen up, there are some harsh ground rules that will be set in this new thread.

1. No more than one bot can be posted every two days.

This means if you post two bots in one day, or one bot each day, this topic immediately gets closed.

2. If there is no clear improvement in your designs as a result of helpful input, this topic gets closed.

3. If I can't tell what the fuck is in the picture, then this topic get's closed.

Are we clear? Awesome.

TO EVERYONE ELSE. THIS IS IMPORTANT AS IT IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THE OTHER THREAD IS SO SHITTY

Yeah, if sparkey posts a bad robot, I'm not going to stop you from laughing at it or vomiting all over your keyboard. However, if you are going to post in this thread, please make it consist of mostly constructive criticism. ANY PERSONAL INSULTS WILL BE DELETED

I have to ask because I'll be damned if I use more memory by downloading that. What exactly is the component pack? Is it just a bunch of pictures of robots?

And they work in RA2?

Can you provide us with some screenshots?

NOT RA2

for MSP lol
the components are so you can redrawn them on bots
the bots are for fail
and you build bots over the textures.

Megan rated it 6/10 lol

still want screenshots?

Here's a hint. Spend the entirety of those two days on ONE bot design. Working on just a single bot design, perfecting it and making it better than it would be otherwise.

It's called an overhead thwack, but I suppose you could also create an overhead thwack that was powered by a motor.

Diamond Jim by Phil. In real life they usually have it as an inactive thwack weapon if they inend to do that though. Thwacking causes too much stress on the weapon drive system, so a hard mounted weapon works best. Old school HWs Mjolnir and Slugger as well as Season 2.0 MW champ Spaz are good examples.

I've got some time so I'll elaborate further on the subject. In case you don't know how they work, here's a break down: Overhead thwacks work on the principal that torque can overcome gravity. Essentially you use large wheels and a small chassis that fits between them (from a side view you would see only the wheels). Now, when both motors are powered forward, the chassis would simply spin without the wheels going anywhere because there is nothing to make them move. Now add a bar to the chassis that extends past the wheels. When both motors power forward, the bar swings backward overhead and hits the ground behind the bot. When it hits the ground the wheels start moving forward (similar to wheelie bars on a drag car). It does the same thing if both wheels move backward, but the bar swings forward to the front of the bot. Now, if the bot is already moving forward at full speed and the motors are suddenly reversed, the bar swings forward violently and slams down onto anything in front of your bot. This allows you to have a hammer or axe type weapon with nothing powering it.

Advantages: The weight savings in not having weapon drive components means these bots are usually very heavily armored and have powerful drivetrains which allow them to dual function as good rammers.

Disadvantages: Although you have two powerful motors swinging the weapon, there is a great deal of parasitic loss because the bot moves backwards when it swings and the wheels tend to slip. Because of this, overhead thwacks simply can not match the destructive power of true hammers.

Now the fun part... If you add a horizontally facing weapon head to the overhead thwack, it can also be used as a traditional "sit-n-spin" thwack. But by now you should know that nothing is free so here's the down side as pointed out by Christian Carlberg many years ago. Overhead thwacks require a light weapon to be able to quickly (if at all) swing it. Meanwhile, traditional thwacks use a heavy weapon to build up kinetic energy for maximum damage. Dual thwack bots have to find a happy medium in weapon head weight, so while you greatly increase the bot's versatility you also decrease the damage potential. That's why if you look at Spaz's fights, he scored a lot of hits but rarely did any noticeable damage. This sacrifice of power was the driving force behind Slugger being replaced with Overkill (a pure overhead thwack).

oh,I think there is some confusion, I know about ovehead thwacks, as there are one of my favorite designs, I mean a hammer bot, that can keep it's hammer out so it can thwack.

EDIT: as soon as I read "duel thwack" I got an evil Idea

A big point of this topic and the rules alex set to it is for you to take your time making 1 drawing, and improve along the way. If you suck at something like this, take your time and do your best to make sure its better the next time, and even better the time after that.
