I'm not much of a trekkie but I am a big fan of J.J. Abrams and wanted to see this movie. I saw it a week or two ago and thought it was great! Everyone I know loves it both trekkies and non-trekkies alike. Therefore, I think it's worth seeing no matter what your mood is. A good start to a rather flimsy looking summer lineup of movies.

Saw it yesterday afternoon (this afternoon depending on your perspective. Really enjoyed it. Not as good TVH or FC, but pretty good. Aside from Pine as Kirk, I think the casting was really great. Pine didn't quite catch all of Kirk's mannerisms, facial expressions, or way of talking, but for the most part, he got the job done.

To be fair, I think Pine was going out of his way to not be a Shatner clone.

Fair enough, but when your character doesn't have half the personality traits of the established Jim Kirk, well, what would call that?

Good acting?

Maybe I'll edit that answer to "A different take on the role" to keep myself alive by the end of ARCCon.

To be keep myself alive? You have bigger worries than Philip killing you. Such as forgetting proper grammar.

Sorry, I just find engrish amusing. Carry on, gentlemen.

lol There's a difference between bad acting and just not doing the character justice.

I could go for the different take on the role bit if the Kirk that was on TOS was tempered by his experiences and wisdom gained from them.

Right, but just for a moment, let's step outside of the mindset of insane Trekies. If Pine had been stinking up the film with Shatner-esqe acting, it probably would have turned a lot of people off.

There's more to Kirk's character than Shatner-esque acting, in TOS. If you see the episode "Turnabout Intruder"... the last episode of Season 3, you see a woman whose body has Kirk's personality inside. You see how well that actress picks up on Kirk's character and mannerisms. There's more to. Jim Kirk. Than pausing. At awkward moments. Of the line.

You could have gotten that for ANY of the post-Kirk movies. :P

And there's not more to Kirk than the pauses... there's less.

Nemesis wasn't that great, actually.

And funny your remark may or may not be, I'll ignore it.
