Heddwyn was nervous.

he didn't like being nervous.

REMOVE THEM ALL...KILL... you really sound like a broken record sometimes, you know...I AM YOU

he also didnt like the Daath challenging Smoke... not after all she'd done to protect him. that being said, they had been trustworthy so far...

Heddwyn considered his staff. "Shahada? If I may? Have the Daath a hand in these abductions?"

KYRAXA

Barely has Kyraxa finished the word, then when three different types of firearms appear before her.

1. Hellfire Cannon
A large launcher carried over the shoulder, initially wielded by a ten-foot mastodon/egret hybrid named Rusty and bearing dark blue and gold colours. It shoots a continuous jet of Hellfire for 5 seconds straight before requiring a cooldown of half a minute. Its range is phenomenal for such a weapon, reaching out to just over 100 feet, and it covers said distance in barely half a second. It seemingly does not work on innocent people, thankfully.

2. Sketcher's Surprise
Anthropomorphic basset hound Sketcher truly outdid himself with this one. It's a shotgun painted almost exactly like a pencil, and it fires almost unlimited rounds of sharp, giant needles that travel incredibly far. It has a cooldown of 5 minutes when it eventually needs to be reloaded. It can also be used to write messages, albeit in a rather messy way.

3. "Ha Ha You're Dead"
A modified M2010 Sniper Rifle that locks onto heat signatures almost 2 km away. Its bullets can hit at said range, making it a truly ridiculous piece of work. They can pierce most armour, but the chance lessens at greater distances. It only comes with 25 bullets, so it must be used sparingly. The name of the rifle is printed on the stock in... Comic Sans. *shudder*

----

REST OF THE PARTY

Casey's unexpected explosion has immediate effects.

"You... summoned someone like THIS??" screeches tiny Robert.

"No, I think 'Smoke' is on the right track," Rustahg smiles. She grins deviously at them all. "You've tried to keep us in line from the very beginning, and used force many times as were unnecessary. Do you remember the guards of the First Commandment? Remember how, when they got in our way, you forced them aside... or should I say, knocked them out so we could enter?"

Abraxas stares in shock. "Is this true?!" he shouts, and suddenly there are angry Felidii staring at them from all angles.

Heddwyn's has enough. He consults the black orb on the end of his staff. "Shahada? If I may? Have the Daath a hand in these abductions?"

The low, melodical voice gives a different answer, "Alas, my powers cannot read them well, so I cannot tell you. I would not say their intentions are wicked. I apologize. However, it would be wise to mark each of them for what they are."

"For... what we are," hisses Lazarus. Then he grins as only a lizard could. "It is plain to see that this ruffian who speaks so highly of her actions intends on spreading strife within our circle, Nexios. Not one of your better summons."

"Then why don't we just resolve all our petty differences right here?" says Benzine. "Otherwise we're getting nowhere, and the longer Petz and Berthier have to spread their own discord. No one is going to get saved at this rate, and there's no point fighting amongst ourselves."

"Petty differences, you say?" Rustahg looks at Benzine.

"I was speaking generally," Benzine replies. "I've had a gut feeling that a few of you had little trust in these guys, and I shared it for a while. But if that's true," he says, looking hard at Casey, "They wouldn't have gone so far out of their ways to protect us. Let me repeat 'Smoke''s question, but gentler." He turns to Nexios. "Were we really summoned here to help solve the abductions of this system?"

Nexios still hasn't said anything.

"Ha! Such conceit!" cries tiny Robert. "You just wish to use us as your pawns! Just as you used Laila!"

Laila's name finally gets a reaction out of Nexios. His flame turns a very, very dark purple.

"Do not... speak of such a thing."

"Nexios." Both Lazarus and Keldar spoke at once, warningly.

"No... you've said she has no intentions to help at all, but perhaps I can bend her opinion with what she wants: truth."

"You needn't tell this brat anything," says Keldar sharply. "How transparent her ploy is to cause dissension in not only our ranks, but those you summoned as well... though if you should aid her, Ms. Brooke..." he casts his glance in her direction.

"Keldar, please. You yourself gave the girl some help. How would you react if you were suddenly somewhere you were not, and then beings from alien worlds tasked you with something so mind-boggling it were unbelievable?"

"Baseless accusations are not easily forgiven, Nexios," hisses Lazarus.

"Let. Me. Speak."

For the first time in a while, real anger flares through Nexios as the flame turns blue. He seems to be angry at Lazarus and Nexios, who lean away suddenly. Nexios, however, instantly regrets his action and the flame returns to deepest purple.

"Forgive me... I should not have lashed out as such."

"Then how about you finally spill? And I mean spill EVERYTHING," says Rustahg.

"That is impossible... for I do not know 'everything'," says Nexios. "But I can certainly share some of my history. Perhaps that will convince others not to resort to sowing terrible seeds..."

"We're listening," growls Koan.

"You see, I come from another life... a life where I was known as Istal. I am no native to this system, indeed you could say even 'I' was abducted. I do not remember much of my past life, but I knew magecraft. It is how I procured the prophet powers I would know today, if they were not dulled recently.

"I knew of things... horrible things. With no real way to stop them, being so far away. Though they did not directly affect me, I was grieved. That was when the Collective came.

"The Cosmic Collective were a group of beings dedicated to universal justice, and they dwelt on a planet called Olaandar. They consisted of:

- Haero, the sword of conviction. He was the leader.
- Azael, of a race called the virals. He was second to Azael and despised his race, willing to use his powers against evil rather than for it. He and Haero were the closest of friends, though neither outwardly showed it.
- Hachiel, angelic deity. She was my main informant
- Tarein, a woman of the past
"

Tarein's name catches the entire party off guard. "But isn't that... ?!?" stammers Electro.

"One of the abducted, yes," responds Nexios. "This was how we confirmed that the threat of the abductions is of universal threat. She was the only one not suspicious of the summons.

"Now Hachiel was whisked away to a self-designated mission in one of the further reaches of the universe. We waited for her return, but she never did come back, nor did we receive word about her. Presumably, we could not let this go unabated, and I was her main confidant, so I went off to go find her. In a way I've turned out just like her...

"At some point, wandering the universe, the potency of my powers dwindled, and I nearly wasted away as I did before meeting the Collective. As it happened, I stumbled upon the Apkallian System here. I had wandering for a long time, so I decided to rest here. I met Keldar and the rest here during my stay.

"Quite a few solar cycles after my arrival, that is when the abductions began, which attracted the attention of the four members of the Black Moon Clan, and those bounty hunting Judas, as well as a few other minor groups. Naturally, I thought that my appearance caused them, just as you accuse us of right now," he says gravely, bowing his head, "so I tried to do everything in my power to find out why inhabitants of Shamash and Uanna, flying between the planetary systems, were suddenly disappearing. Notably, I failed...

"Keldar? Your turn. Speak truthfully."

Now Keldar is the one who is quiet. Eventually, the rusted voice raises.

"Have it your way, but remember what people do with such information. Now..."

Keldar throws back his hood, and all the Felidii soldiers, even Abraxas, yell in alarm at his appearance.

"Hm... I wish I could say it was nothing," he says lightly, "but that would be a lie, and since we seem to be so desperate for truth, I will tell you what I know, and only what I know.

"I was initially a scientist on Shamash. Volatile experiments... that sort of fancy. However, the mayor deemed my studies too much so after one of my own tests did this to me, and advised me to research a... safer subject. You could bless him for the 'path' I took... or you could bless Nexios."

"I met Keldar at one of the many outposts of First Commandment back on Shamash," Nexios continues the story. "When I first met him, he was barely a husk of will. A defeatist, if you will. I turned him around after subsequent meetings, and both I and Mayor McClancy put him on the path of prophecy."

"A great meeting, was it not... old friend."

"Of course, both of us with time began to strengthen our powers even through the abductions," continues Nexios. "And it was at that time that we formed Daath."

"I came from a family that had been entirely abducted..." hisses Lazarus, still glaring daggers at Casey. "I joined out of desperation, not loyalty."

"We were still glad to have you, Lazarus," says Nexios, morose. "Now...

"Summoning magic was one of the last things we practiced, as secondary mages. I, and only I, can perform this. Now we were at a low point in this story... great minds, you say," he 'looks' at Lazarus, who turns an eye towards him. "Certainly our minds are not great enough to decipher the code behind this mystery. Knowing this, in my own desperation I willed beings from across the universe to help, promising them whatever desires I could give them, be it an immediate return to their home or what else they may need, in exchange for eliminating this horrible threat, where we have failed.

"Inadvertently I summoned my own member of the Collective... amongst others."

"You fucking sent your own partner to her doom?!" bursts out Rustahg.

"Do not remind me!!" Nexios' voice is loud but not angry. "Do you think I not regret such chance?! Not a single moment passes by without this guilt... and she is not the only one.

"Tarein agreed to go, for she recognized the importance of this case. But among our discussion, Hachiel's name was brought up. That's when Laila intervened... Laila was an acquaintance of Hachiel previously."

"Nexios was... how shall I say it... moved," Keldar interjects quietly. "I believe he tried as hard as he could to get some info out of the poor half-angel, but even she did not know. Thus Nexios feared that his angelic companion had been abducted by the very thing that had been taking the Saipens and Felidii."

"Nexios is rather rash," spits Lazarus. "We had to verbally restrain him from going with the Eight." He looks at Robert. "Talk. And don't get snappy. We tire of distrust, and since we are being honest, I still hold desires of violence towards certain individuals that I would have let loose if I had not known my place. Now speak."

Robert glares at Lazarus for a moment (as does Casey; it's hard to tell what Casey's thinking at the moment, but she definitely feels an intense hatred for Lazarus, merited or not), then tells the entire party what happened to the Eight again. They were heading out towards planets in the other orbit when suddenly they began to be... 'pulled' towards something. At the same time, Judas ships attacked, and they were boarded. During the fight, Robert was taken away and brainwashed by the Judas...

"Unfortunate," says Keldar.

"After we lost all contact with them..." sighs Nexios.

"He went into deep depression," Lazarus looks at Nexios curiously, as though deep in thought.

"Yet, still, the abductions continued," Keldar speaks again. "They began to occur more frequently than before."

"Eventually, the rest of the Daath convinced me to try again," says Nexios. "I did not want to do it, but I gave in to the points that, if left unchecked, everyone would have been taken anyway by what threat is still out there.
That's when most of you appeared
."

"Do you still maintain your word, Nexios, that you will reward them with what they will, if they succeed?" laughs Keldar. "For if they wish to go back to their own worlds, you cannot grant them that."

"Maybe not I alone," says Nexios, and his voice suddenly shakes. "But I know someone who does have that power. And she is still alive."

Lazarus and Keldar look at each other... then turn to Nexios again.

"That is a gamble, Nexios. A sizable one. Do you really believe that your friend Hachiel is in the system somewhere?" asks Lazarus.

"I don't have a lock on her location," says Nexios again, "but ever since the half-demon, Heddwyn, has arrived in the system, I have been able to sense her... somewhere."

Almost every single pair of eyes lock onto the half-demon, who... looks quite taken aback.

"So, I beg you," Nexios turns to Casey, and Casey alone. "Don't scorn our intentions. I had personal reasons to not disclose them, but since you pushed thus, I have revealed what I have done. I am a bungler, I admit."

"What does it matter, Nexios?" says Lazarus menacingly. "No matter what you say, this fool's own revelations tell us she does not care. She is no help."

"She has been every bit of help. Grudgingly, bitterly, but she has helped." Nexios gestures at Koan and Calaveras. "And it has been appreciated."

"Even so, she has still tried to sow distrustful seeds. That much is all too clear," says Keldar. "I, for one, will not tolerate trying to drive a rift in our friendship."

"Nor will I," hisses Lazarus. "Greed is what took my kin from me..."

"Then let her speak again, and see what she has to say about this. Indeed, let us hear everyone."

The Felidii stand down again, and Abraxas frowns, but no longer looks hostile.

Kyraxa selects the hellfire cannon and jostles it around a bit to get a feel for the weight. Happy that it can both engulf her foes in flames and smash them to a thin paste, she is pleased with her choice.

"So, where are these enemies that need smiting?"

Seeing tension appeared to rise between the different people, Electro tried to calm the situation down: "Look, we all have a common goal and we're gonna need all we can get to achieve it, we all want the same end result don't we ? Now is not the time to have grudges between each other, we must all unite for the mission we must complete, even if we don't trust each other, we need to work together to get to the root of those abductions and stop them along with recovering the people we lost."

They're surprisingly calm about the ordeal. Maybe a Brooke-powered escape won't be necessary after all.

These revelations complicate things. Lazarus, of all people, should understand where Casey's coming from... and yet he remains steadfast. Maybe there is some truth to what the Daath say, then. Casey can't bring herself to trust them, though. Nexios, at least, seems to mean well. He wants to help, it's clear in his voice. The others, though - Keldar in particular - are too insistent on ousting her. Even if their stories are real, she's not about to be someone's tool. What about Brooke, then? And Heddwyn, before she came around? Casey's been using them. She mentally shrugs this off: she "became the monster," so to speak, a long time ago. She knows she's not innocent, and she doesn't intend to excuse herself from punishment when the time comes.

The kid of the group finally speaks up. Poor guy, wrapped up in so much shit that he has no hope of understanding, but optimistic anyway. A familiar situation to Casey: her sister was much the same. Ordinarily, she'd lash out at anyone who presumed to know her goals, but she can't find it in herself to be mad at Electro. Or anyone, for that matter. Distrustful, yes, but not angry like she was just minutes ago.

Everyone's eyes are on her again. She has to say something. So much pressure... she takes a deep breath.

"I'm sorry... I can't trust this, and it's clear that you don't trust me, either. I'm going to figure this out on my own." She heads for the exit, but stops part way there. "One way or another, I suspect we'll meet again."

And then she leaves.

Time to go find Petz before everyone else does.

PARTY

There is complete silence as Casey takes her leave, alone. None of the Felidii even try to stop her.

"Is it... wise to let her go off on her own like that, knowing what she is?" Abraxas grunts at last.

"It's her decision," says Keldar quietly.

"We can do no more other than hope she rejoins us at some point," says Nexios sadly. "We must return to the tasks at hand."

"As long as she adheres to the laws of Uanna, I will grant her freedom within the city," replies Abraxas.

"That is well," says Nexios. He turns to Heddwyn. "Now... do I not rightly guess that you have had a voice beckoning to you for a while?"

----

KYRAXA

"The Judas Towers are stationed on Enki, the planet we orbit," replies Maukh. "Fortunately they have not spread across Enki, but it will take some time to take them all out, especially with our dwindled numbers. Now, if you wish it, we can take you to the teleport room which connects to a hidden encampment on Enki's surface, near one of the Towers. Or if you wish otherwise, we can take you there via aircraft... the latter is much riskier, as several of the Judas crafts pilot the area. We can aid from the sky ourselves, but there is no guarantee of survival..."

----

CASEY

Purpose in her step, Casey roams around the city at will. She's surprised at the lack of inhabitants. There are some citizens walking about, but though their expressions mask it, Casey can tell by their postures and gaits that they're terrified beyond their wits, and are expecting the sky to fall at any moment. Strange...

So long as she doesn't tamper with my ship, Brooke thinks, we have no issues. Truth be told, while she'd never trusted the Daath entirely, Brooke has never quite viewed them as the master villains of this saga. I have enough answers for now. I have an obvious target. It's time to kick some ass and chew some bubblegum, and I've never liked bubblegum. Brooke makes a beeline for the armoury. She knows exactly what she'll say when she's there: "knockout".

After some surprisingly quiet discussion to get some tactical lowdown, Kyraxa has an idea of what she is going to do. She will teleport in and have a quick chat with the Felidii to locate which of the towers has the roughest terrain in it's vicinity - mineral excavation is bound to have left some potholes. On doing that she will approach as stealthily as she can.

Then, she will find a boulder and throw it right at the tower with her enormous strength. She will get low to the ground on as raised a point as is nearby, and when the first group of Judas arrive to investigate, she will ignite their entire party with her brand new Hellfire Cannon. At this point, she will dive in and finish off any survivors with her mace if she feels she can do so quickly.

Then she will leave at a run, and selecting a tower at random but not one of the immediately adjacent ones, she will use one of her Ythlaki Storm Cannon (using one of her 3 precious batteries) to straight up blow up that tower. She will then immediately exit the area to find a bit of cover, and take stock of how things have gone so far.

Now this is more her speed. Wandering around alone, learning what she can from the surroundings: this is Casey's favorite thing to do. This is a much different environment than she's used to, though, far from the bustling city she's been operating in for the past few weeks back home. The abductions seem to have turned the place into a paranoid ghost town. Probably best not to disturb things: hard to learn much in the middle of a mass panic.

Casey has plenty of time to reflect on recent events with nobody around to distract her. Unsurprisingly, nobody wants to trust her anymore. Business as usual, there. Unfortunately, it looks like Brooke is on the fence about her now. Hasn't come with, but also hasn't stopped time to shoot her. She stops to think about how many rewinds Brooke might have had to do to get this timeline. How many things almost went wrong? Who's to say that Brooke didn't stop time to sabotage her at some point? Now there's a scary thought. Casey has had her hand over the flap keeping her bag closed since arriving on Uanna. She would have noticed any sudden changes in the positions of the stuff in there. No matter. There's only one thing in there that's been much use, anyway. She misses Heddwyn, though she doesn't quite understand why. Keldar is probably bad news, as are the remaining Black Moons and the Judas.

Black Moon... right, Petz. She's supposed to be somewhere on Uanna, isn't she? Finding her might be a bit of a chore, talking her down even more so, but Casey isn't one to give up that quickly. She tries to find any sort of live news broadcast around town. Sitting and listening for a while might get her some clues. Failing that, she figures she could try messing with the radio receiver in her visor: she's never been sure why it has one built in, but it might come in handy here.

THE PARTY

The remaining party follow Brooke (minus Abraxas and the Felidii officers except one who shows them the way) to the armoury.

Maukh and Kyraxa greet them, and Maukh explains how the machine works. Brooke steps up and says "knockout".

And what appears is...

1. A Professional Without Standards
Cipherius the Brazen was one of the most feared space pirates of this millennia. He claimed countless enemy aircraft and their pilots before giving in to a sudden case of bone-itis. His weapon passed down from hand to hand but was never utilized to its fullest potential. Eventually it fell in the hands of a Judas who was arrested and is still in jail.

The weapon itself is an anti-aircraft rifle that fires long plasma bolts at frightening speeds and requires no ammunition. However, it can only be fired at 10 second intervals, and leaves a tracer trail after every shot, signalling your current location. It also has a secondary barrel below the first one that fires capsules contaning knock-out gas smothering enemies within 25 feet radii. Only 20 capsules come loaded with the rifle, though.

2. The Holiday Punch
It seems absurd that the Judas celebrate Smissmas, but there you are. These knitted mittens are super durable, super strong, and keep your hands warm on those cold winter nights. It's rumoured that if you manage land a precise blow with these on, your victim will become so overwhelmed with Smissmas spirit that they are overcome with hearty laughter and left vulnerable! Be the life of the war party with these laugh-inducing punch-mittens!

3. Sheer Cold
A magical revolver made almost entirely out of ice. It claimed its previous wielder by freezing them to death after a single failed usage. Like the rifle it requires no ammunition, and fires a bullet-like blast that freezes a target completely, eventually killing them through hypothermia unless the target can withstand space-like temperatures. Unfortunately it seems to be somewhat sentient and will turn on its owner if they are inept with firearms, freezing them instead. Moreover, it can only be used once every 15 minutes.

----

CASEY

Casey finds no TV broadcasts, but upon adjusting her visor, she starts receiving a radio report about something called "Rebel Yell" somewhere in the middle of the city. People are apparently advised to stay indoors while the authorities deal with the commotion. Interesting... not too far from her either.

Rebel Yell? Casey could swear that was an old song she heard once before. Close to 200 years old, in fact. Well, whatever the name of this thing is, she's off to check it out. She packs her gear up again and tries to find the center of the city... wherever that is. There's probably a heavy police presence, so she knows if she sees law enforcement, she's in the right place. Apparently it's close, so she can't get too lost.

The idea of just punching someone in the face is absurdly tempting to Brooke, but, she's a smallish woman with one effin' leg. Probaby best to stay away from fisticuffs. The gun is tempting too. You don't come from the bible belt and not know how to use firearms. Still, a fifteen minute cooldown and lethality aren't her style. She chooses the first weapon and, after a brief briefing - haha, brief briefing - asks to be sent to where the enemy can be found.

BROOKE and KYRAXA

Having chosen their weapons, the other choices immediately vanish. Maukh asks them if they are ready, to which they say they quite are. He then leads them down to the teleporter, which is also quite a ways to get to.

The teleporter room is large and spacious, thankfully enough for Kyraxa. Maukh sets the co-ordinates for Enki, and they're off.

Soon, they find themselves in a small (ish; Kyraxa can still fit) bunker, with several Felidii soldiers gasping in surprise when they see the two new recruits. Maukh assures them it's okay and that they are allies, and then they quiet down again, grateful.

Maukh turns to Kyraxa and Brooke. "I have already contacted my comrades in the sky. They shall engage in a dogfight with the enemy air forces while we take the fight to the ground level."

He takes out what looks to be a rocket launcher, but it has ornamental wings on the sides.

"Sound off if you're ready."

HEDDWYN and ELECTRO (and friends)

"Do you wish to go help them?" says Benzine.

Heddwyn doesn't answer, still lost in internal debate.

"I think I'd rather stay here," smirks Rustahg. "I've found all the company I need."

Koan tries to avoid her eye.

"Perhaps we should give them more time," says Nexios to his compatriots.

"Every hour lost, the threat worsens. You know that," replies Keldar quietly.

"I think 'Smoke's' rant kind of affected us all," Benzine suggests.

"I'm going back to the war room," says Nexios firmly. "I will keep in touch with the party liberating Enki from the Judas Towers. I am not in the mood to lose any more people. Those who wish to follow, you are free to do so."

He appears to be taking the loss of everyone pretty hard; Hachiel, Tarein, and Laila are understandable, but he grieves Kadius and Draktar as well.

Then one of the Felidii overseeing the party hears something on his com-link. "Yes? ...a meteorite?"

The entire party turns. Even Nexios, who was on the verge of walking out, whirls about to listen.

"Yes... yes, I'll tell them." The soldier informs them all that a massive silver object is entering Uanna's atmosphere.

CASEY

Casey catches sight of about one or two people running in a direction off to the side, so she decides to tail them, hearing a sudden cacophony of angry voices up ahead. When she does...

Pandemonium.

It appears to be a protest gone horribly wrong. People are tearing themselves apart while the few authorities on-scene are trying to disperse the crowd. There are bodies beaten to death, people fighting with each other, others screaming about abuse of power, and innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. There are both Felidii, and Saipens moved over from Shamash. The Saipens are yelling something about "Axis! Axis!" and many of the Felidii are responding with "KAINE!"

"Please!" comes a rather desperate voice from one of the officers, over a megaphone. "Cease and desist! We are trying to resolve the situation as best as we can - !"

A Felidii woman replies in rather hysterical tones, "YOU TOOK MY HUSBAND FROM ME!! YOU TOOK HIM!! YOU TOOK HIM AND I'LL - "

She's then knocked out from behind by one of the Saipens screaming about "Axis" or something. Who then is piled upon by many of the Felidii. Some even have the gall to try assaulting the officers. Casey oversees all this carnage...

Mystery of the Apkallian System

Apparently now in a armory room and after being given explanation of how the machine in front of him worked, Electro had to pick what word to use, he started thinking of what kind of weapons would be useful to him, his obvious weakness aside from water was him having a rather low physical strength, so weapons that would help with that would be a logical option, but how to formulate it in a single word, eventually he stepped up to the machine and just spoke "strength", hoping that the randow weapon draw would be "kind" to him.
